Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Well it was sweet Afrihost while it lasted, but this was the final and last straw that broke the camel's back. I have a capped account on a 40mb line that I can't use. I have unbundled and cancelled my line and my 75gb ''capped'' account.

:(

I can't really speak much of the current state of our network, but I can say that when the network upgrades are in place, the difference will be Day and Night.

If you want to try out our new network when it comes online, drop me a PM and I'll get you a test account.

When?? When?? When???

For ye love of godz, just when?? How much longer must this borkedness be endured??????????

Did you hear the one about the wife who sued for divorce, when asked on what grounds she replied: "Non consummation your honour, he works for Afrihost and for the past 2 years he has sat on the end of the bed every night telling me how good it is going to be."

We're reaching a major milestone with the testing tomorrow, and if all goes well, it will mean we can speed up the network upgrade process.

:P

At least if the divorce goes on for a few days more the wife's world will be rocked.

Also decided to cancel my Afrihost account. Signed up with someone else. Pitty since I actually like Afrihost.

Deja vu.

We hear the same story about 3 times EVERY YEAR.

Here is my speedtest first thing in the morning.

I will test later today to see if there are changes.

Sorry to hear that. I know that it's a tough time to stick with us, and we're doing our best to speed things up where we can without compromising on the quality of the project we're working on.

We'll definitely be here for many years to come, so hopefully we'll see you again soon :)

I think the important thing to note is that a network is not static, it has to evolve with demand, changes in behaviour, traffic, services and technology. Any network team must plan and evaluate constantly to compensate for all of this. We try to be open about what we're doing. Some prefer to do things behind closed doors so as not to create panic, we feel that the open approach is what our clients expect from us.

what open approach? do you hear yourself people have been saying for months there is problems but it is just denial after denial

Is that on a 10Mbps line? Guessing from the upload speed. Latency is definitely too high for 6am, there is pretty much minimal demand on the network. Can you run a traceroute?

Latency does not worry me as we don't game.
The line syncs at 7mb so the speed looks fine, I was just comparing this to yesterday when the speed test could not even get to 1mb.

This is the latest test so I am pretty happy with that.

I would advise people do a local AND international speedtest to get a true reflection of Afrihosts network. Once you see how bad the international connection is when you see how bad the product currently is.

For a 7Mbps profile that's not too bad, not the best though.
Enough latency can also cause reduced throughput too, which is where the issues may be creeping in.

^^ This!

^^ FFS!!! Really! Latency at the expense of throughput now.

/meh meh meh

Well I am in Hout Bay so we share the Wynburg switch, here is what I get on 10meg:

But something strange is happening other than speed, I am getting web page not found notices and sometimes page not available, but suddenly it pops up. I think it is very high packet loss rather than speed or latency that is causing it.

I am mainly working with US servers though, trying to source some CPU's with RF capability, so I am stuck with specific servers only with such info. I cant broaden the search to avoid america.
