Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Well to be fair here - I joined AH for the unshaped and unthrottled service. So if that were to change, that would suck a$$.

I doubt it. The minute we could get rid of throttling we completely removed it from the network. If you look at the way the world is going, throttling is just no longer going to be an option anyway :)

And shaping?

I don't expect there will be any immediate changes, we want to move clients as seamlessly from what to have to the new system. I wouldn't be surprised if, once we're settled, we offer some radical new alternatives and different ways of customising your product to suit your needs. Whichever concept is successful, we will have a lot more options in the future, which is awesome!

How is the new system different and what pricing changes are there?
Would I be getting my 150GB or uncapped while I was on your new system?

There is no offer to the terms or what the system even entails.

Then why bother with the PR spin of a CEO message then?

No specifics again... just more magic pixie dust of whatever.

Excuse my lack of enthusiasm.. okay.

>>>>> follow the yellow brick road >>> follow the yellow brick road....

Toto, I've a feeling we're not in Kansas any more

I really am not sure what specifics you feel should be here. I can understand if you want to reserve your enthusiasm, but I think if you read the thread, and Gian's replies (as they come in) you'll see that there is definitely a lot of information being shared. Other than that, not sure how to help you, TBH :(

Jaws Music playing - iOS update tonight.

Make sure your other ISP account is up and running.

Afrihost will be dead in the water.

To add - I signed up for the specific package I am now on as that is what I decided I needed & wanted i.t.o not being shaped etc.
I would like that to remain in place - that is what I agreed to.
Improvements are always welcome - but if it were to move to being shaped etc, that is most assuredly not welcome.

And shaping?

I can't say specifically how things may change in the future (I would expect for the better though), but I would expect that we'll be keeping things as close to what they are as possible. Since this is the capped thread, we definitely won't be shaping capped - but if we do make those kind of changes, there would be lots and lots of notice and options :)

And business uncapped?

Well you had better fix this current problem, pronto.

I think the whole point about Gian posting is that we're not sure how much we can achieve with our current resources, hence the need to revisit the entire thing. We're hoping that if the POC is ready quickly enough, we can divert some resources so that clients can start seeing a better experience. Even if only some clients start using the POC networks, this will create relief for the rest of our clients experiencing congestion.

everything will most likely stay the same for the time being, until we are settled. From there, I'm sure the intention is always going to be to drop prices where possible and offer more benefits/value wherever we can.

Ok...

Just for those like me who are unable to follow this... just exactly WHAT are the two options being offered then as outlined in the "between the lines" garnishing of that post?

I cannot read anything but blah, sorry, blah, soon, blah, crap internet, blah, changes, blah, don't call me, I'll call you ??

They are two new potential network configurations, with slightly different infrastructure, but mostly setup according to a basic plan of our ideal network setup. the idea is that functionally each one would offer similar features for the future, but each aspect of network has it's benefits in terms of the back end (and how we'll be able to structure products around the backbone of the network)

Aaaaand... why does this break the current setup so regularly then?

Why does your current setup bork so frequently then and how does this new setup prevent this from happening and at what cost???? Does MTN know about this??

International is messed up again. 300ms ping HotS. 7ms local speedtest (7.5/0.6), 233ms to vienna (1.43/0.67).

MTN know all about this, as a major shareholder and give us their full support. They want Afrihost to succeed and our clients to continue to get the best experience and value. Right now, we don't have the control or access to really work with the network to maximise our resources to our client's benefit. With either option there will be more control, more direct, realtime insight into the network reporting, and we'll be able to react quicker, have more active monitoring and be able to deal with issues like capacity much faster with less intermediary approval.

Not looking too great there. It's possible that while Google peering is not great, it could influence other results depending on their hosts. Let's confirm that the issue is resolved and then test again. As far as I know, international demand is definitely not at max for the moment :(

I don't expect there will be any immediate changes

so u expect us to pay for something that will not be resolved

I dunno if you've read the post Gian made fully. He does give a very clear out line of what will be happening in the future

loooooool the word is FUTURE all this fixes and upgrades should have happened in the past just another PR stunt like i said it is a ongoing issue for months now if it was a week or two then it was a different story
