As a temporary measure why not shape torrents and NNTP to half line speed on capped and business accounts. And leave all other traffic unshaped. Just a thought, I would rather have lower latency and slower torrents for now. At least other things will work properly in the interim.

I think that would do more damage than good, especially without giving people fair notice that we're essentially changing our AUP and giving them time to decide if that's what they'd like. The performance might not be good on those services, but that is not something we're not doing intentionally via a policy so it's not changing the product specifications.

I've always been a big supporter of scheduling torrents in any case. I think the effect they have on the network is always left to after hours when the network is quiet. But I understand sometimes you need that GoT episode...oops, err, I mean linux distro right now! ;)

Judging from feedback in these forums and personal experience, p2p and nntp already perform at much lower than half line speed as it is.

Yeah, they definitely don't do well when contention is high. Generally mine has been OK for the most part, but I've had to wait overnight for a few downloads to complete. Strangely when I compare to other ISP accounts I use to test, there are still times when our P2P are better. True story :)

Wow... this is the best it has been in a long while.

Please let it remain so... for more than a little while.

I have missed this.

Definitely looking decent there. Maybe everyone figured out that iOS 8.4 disables Home Sharing on iTunes and stopped downloading it.

I stream my Linux Distro's Bandwidth is cheaper than HD capacity and I have never trusted Torrents. :)

Definitely looks pretty horrible there. I'm seeing latency in the East rising now. Where are you connecting from?

Newcastle, KZN. It was the same yesterday, latency picked up at around 8-9AM.

We're aware of the higher latency spiking up in the East and South.

I met with an exec from a major record company a few years back. She told me they troll the torrent sites to track downloaders and they were the biggest culprits of planting viruses in fake downloads. Yeah, it can be a nasty playground - legal streaming is definitely safer :)

Very old news...
If you're knowledgeable you'll know how to avoid that... These days they don't plant viruses, they just create fake torrents to harvest IP addresses... surely working for an ISP you ought to know that.

And its not a nasty playground, its only nasty if you're a n00b...

And furthermore, if your product WORKED LIKE IT SUPPOSED TO... then this would be a moot point

:(
We're aware of the higher latency spiking up in the East and South.

While we wait on POC, what is being done to better this? I have 10mb line at home and don't get much better than 2 to 3mb down. At the moment I'm not gaming online (thank fark) cause I would have torn Afrihost a new one :D

We have a team working on this as soon as latency is picked up - we need to manage the demand to avoid higher latency.
Ultimately though, the new POCs will have a proper solution for this.

What criteria will be used for POC testers? Any idea yet?

I hope the POC will make it a permanent solution, because I and people around me using Afrihost waiting patiently for this. At the moment catching up all the series and single player games, not touching online gaming anymore, not want to risk it anymore, nor spend money always on other ISP's just to play. So I'm putting high hopes on this new network!
