If this is the case then why can other ISP's offer the facility of carrying unused bandwidth over?
Also, whilst we made a judgement about how much data we needed, there have been many times when, due to the degraded service, we have not been able to use it and at the end of the month see it washed down the drain. We are gluttons for punishment (hoping to experience the glory days again) and just keep on paying!
Personally I would be happy if my unused data could be carried over for say three months and then I lose it.

I think we can always take it under advisement, but the reality is that our entire business model is based on this, so it's a fundamental change to the way we do business and it's not something that will happen overnight. I really can't make any promises in this area, but I can say I'll send the message up the chain of command.

That looks to me to be your exchange. The second hop is on Telkom's network, not on ours :(

I would like to know if my exchange is still a problem?
The difference is night and day. I post results here when there is a problem, so that you are aware that there is a problem. I have also told you that I have never had problems with the exchange in over 4 years.
The replay I get from afrihost is your exchange is congested. Why then is it today not congested?

The replay I get from afrihost is your exchange is congested. Why then is it today not congested?

Congestion generally only becomes an issue during peak times such as in the evening between 18h00 and 22h00 when everyone is home and using their ADSL connection. If your connection remains like this for the next few days, then we can probably rule out congestion as the issue.

My result is pretty much the same as Bashleys, below tracert using an alternative ISP confirms it's not Afrihost specific, but possibly Cape Town area related, or possibly that specific dota 2 server? The ping however seems fine, not sure if the Request Timed Out's is anything to be concerned about....

On a side note, no matter what IP I ping, regardless of ISP, my second HOP never yields any result, why is that?

That pretty much means your Exchange is running an updated software package that Telkom has expressly prevented from responding to ICMP traffic, so it will give you a result on a Ping or Traceroute.

I think we can always take it under advisement, but the reality is that our entire business model is based on this, so it's a fundamental change to the way we do business and it's not something that will happen overnight. Hey Guys

Please extend a warm MyBB welcome to the newest edition to the Afrihost family, AfriFella!

He'll be taking over from AfriGirl (who has sadly gone to seek her fortune in the big, big world). He's a super-awesome dude, and he's ready to jump in and help wherever he can.

Good luck, AfriFella! Be prepared to learn a few things from the very clever people on this thread :)

Hey Everybody!

Happy to be here! Thank you for the awesome introduction AfriMan, I can't wait to get stuck in. :)

We're all going to miss AfriGirl a lot, but I'm sure I'll be able to make up for for her absence. Let's go!

Windows Updates is still unusable on a capped Afrihost account. Can someone at Afrihost please provide feedback as to what is being done about this?

How are you regular browser/download speeds? Are you only having trouble with Windows Updates specifically?

Windows Update issue

How are you regular browser/download speeds? Are you only having trouble with Windows Updates specifically?

Only Windows Updates - It has been like this for weeks. When I switch over to another ISP, Windows Updates immediately starts working and completes within a couple of seconds. Afrihost says it is due to demand which frankly is nonsense. This is a network appliance (dare I say - "Traffic Shaping") issue.

This is my previous post -
Roughly two months ago Windows Updates was not a problem, Apple App Store Updates was. Now it is the other way around. Remove those newly configured rules from your network appliances and watch this problem disappear. You guys just move the problem around. It is as clear as daylight - you do not have enough bandwidth to go around yet you keep selling and signing new customers. If it is not gaming, it is Youtube. If it is not the Apple App Store it is Windows Update. This nonsense needs to stop. You can try but you cannot suck a golf ball through a hose pipe. How can you sell something you do not have? Is this not unethical?

Hmm I must say this is something I have not personally encountered yet. You say it runs better when switching networks, have you tried our new Afrigreen network yet?

Thank you AfriFella. I have used the Afrigreen credentials and our results are as follows: Initially there was a better response with Windows Update. Although it is not what it used to be, at least it works now. It just takes a while. I have tested YouTube and that seems to work without buffering and pausing. I have also tested Apple App Store downloads and that still works ok. However this was until 13:00. The network performance has since then deteriorated significantly. A normal download slowed to a crawl. The minute I switch to another ISP things are back to normal. Windows Updates work and downloads run at full speed.

Thanks for the reply. :) I'm glad to hear that Afrigreen performed well for you this afternoon. Not cool to hear that it degraded this afternoon though. How does a general speedtest perform for you right now in terms of line speed and latency?

A speedtest, as always shows line is running fine. Download 3.4 Mbps, Latency 15ms.
