Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Ditto to all the above. AH: 200+ms ping latency and ~300KBs download on SAIX, OpenWeb: 13ms ping latency and 600KBs download; both on my 10Mb line, which Hellkom will only allow to sync at 6Mbs.

Out of interest I looked on the Uncapped thread as well and the story is the same. Poor latency, poor downloads, and no recognition by any AH representative that there are widespread issues with the services they are providing, at least within the southern region.

The network status page on the AH web-site is a work of fiction, and has been for months now.

Once again, I looked at what means to be a loyal customer and decided to give AH another month. But it can't go on: why should I keep paying AH ~R1000 per month for a service which I'm not getting; AH support has always been second-to-none, unfortunately they're being badly let down by bean-counters and technical teams and as the interface between the customers and the latter, they're bearing the brunt. But R1000 is too much to have to pay for good support alone: I'd much rather have the service I pay for and *** support, than *** service and excellent support!

Double /meh.

Big meh indeed :(
Really sorry about this here dude :( I had a look at the latency monitoring this morning and see that things were far from ideal this weekend.

Same situation for me, 200-300ms and 5-10% packetloss to local servers last night, other ISPs flawless. Can we please have some explanation? Will more IPC be provisioned in a reasonable timeframe for the South region?

We did see increases in latency this weekend, mostly during peak periods in the South :( We're working like crazy to have things normalised and pushed back to what they were.

Your Status page says all is a-okay (when clearly, well, you know).

Oh, and I am still waiting for your call centre rep, a Valentino I think, to call me back to answer a question asked some 3 weeks ago.

Crud, so its a CT South thing... again.

This seems to be an ongoing, ever recurring cycle here.

Any ETA idea / timeframe for a resolution?

Afripeeps... Its always the same thing... "We are sorry we are sorry" "We saw a spike, we are sorry"

That is all fair any well... But this has been going on for months now... What has actually been done? and why do we not get any answers?

Why is the status page not updated?
It's not hard to setup an automated script to change the status to High Latency in the south at 6pm every evening... I mean thats exactly whats happening :/

Tried to watch BGT final last night but streaming a nightmare! See from other posts that this was a general problem in the south. (I am in CPT area with 10Mbps ADSL). Assumed that as it was the last day of the month AH putting on the brakes to save bandwidth but they would, of course, never do that?
Think it about time we started thinking about putting up banners.

It has been around for too long, I don't have any timeframes but we're always looking at ways to have things running as smoothly as possible.

It definitely shouldn't be happening every weekend, and from what I can see on the monitoring it isn't.
Last weekend was an exception though.

We'd never intentionally limit bandwidth just because it's the end of the month :)
Demand seemed high this weekend, which in turn saw an increase in latency.

Last weekend was an exception though.

It happens more days of the week than it doesn't... for every good day (Which is a sad thing to say because this should be a normal day) There are 4-5 bad ones (This is now becoming the new normal as its been happening for months)

This is not just a weekend issue... But co-insides with the end of the month capped guys trying to burn what they have left of their cap before the new month... Which leads me to believe it must be a capasity issue... weather it be IPC, BRAS or MTN/Afrihosts internal switching/routing...

If you guys keep telling us usage was high and that was the reason for a bad user experience does that not mean that you guys need to increase your capacity?

If you're seeing constant latency on the line then something else may be happening here.
Would you mind dropping me a PM with your details and any test info that you've gathered?

You guys have tested my line a good 3-4 times... Still waiting on feedback from the last time it was sent to your technical team... Also, not line issue, as it is fine with other ISP's...

As you can see from my post #885

As you can see from the above:
exchange limit is 520Mbps
it does what, 162Mbps max
Thus it is barely using over 25%

So i do not think it is a problem to my exchange. Likewise i have also tried other ISP on different Backbones with 0% Packetloss which tells me it can only be an issue on afrihost side and not my line and/or exchange.

Please don't deflect this as a line issue. I have the same issues most of the week in the afternoon's/evenings. Swap ISP and everything is good.

Upgrade your South/Cape Town IPC since you do not have enough to deal with peak time.
Quite nice of Telkom to offer reduced fees for extra capacity, you should take advantage of it.

Else I want a specific date by which it is supposed to be fixed, timeframe.
Trying to leave your customers in the dark only causes frustrations and damages your reputation.
