will check tomorrow again... just happy to be able to USE THE INTERNET AGAIN...

Thanks for another evening of high pings and disconnects.... luckily I have a spare account at another ISP. was super stoked to have a low (13) ping when I started gaming.... slowly degraded until I couldnt even join. Local ping now 113.

Tracert hitting a brick wall on the 3rd ping like everyone else.

I think I may move on... this is unacceptable. Same old excuses and whitewash.

The only question is if I should move my domains away out of spite... but those seem to be working fine at least.

and the worst of it all is that flippen green orb on your website claiming all is well in the land of unicorns and rainbows.

Can anybody recomend an alternative ISP, where I can get a capped account for 1 month. I dont mind paying a bit of a price for a dependable, high-end, service. My line is only 2MB but I need it to be stable, not with these intermittent 200+ ms spikes I am currently seeing on my AH account.

My torrents are dead and browsing speeds are very slow.
Please don't give me another answer like - "In regards to the torrents that are not functional at the moment perhaps try downloading a different torrent with assured high peers and seeds to confirm if it is still not working....." regarding my ticket support-cause everything was o.k for downloading, not great like usual but o.k. and now DEAD.There is more than enough seeders ect.I`ve been experiencing deteriorated service for a few days now.I`m afraid shaping might be at work here, so much for capped internet

The torrents I've tested definitely seem to be coming through, though speeds vary. It's really difficult to say whether that's a network issue or just the nature of torrents. I've never been able to find a torrent file that is guaranteed to max your, regardless of seeders, etc. However, what I do see is that when the South seems to be under excessive demand, torrents seem to suffer, and then improve when that demand comes back into range :(

I am contemplating the same... giving AH this week to sort the issue out, if not, then its bye bye

Look at this UTTER CRAP speed pattern with running torrents...

I'd love o say we'll have this sorted out by the end of this week, but to be honest it's already Thursday and this is not a simple issue (or we'd have squashed it already). It would be great though, but to be totally honest, I think it may take us a little longer to find a permanent solution. However, we'll take any short term wins we can find along the way (without affecting unshaped product guidelines) to make the network in general perform better.

I'm really sorry about that. I promise we are doing everything we can, gaming is a high priority for us :(

Just a question - as you are making certain protocols "high priority" - are the other protocols now going to suffer even more now? E.g. p2p, nntp, etc.

Can't stream a blooming thing on YouTube. Absolutely unworkable.
Come on Afrihost. This is absolute nonsense.

Geez... I have my line with AH.
Wondering... seriously... whether I need to move it.
First time I heard about this :(

Nothing has really changed in terms of pricing. To my knowledge it is always going to be free to move your line between ISPs. The new policy, which comes into effect tomorrow, as I understand it, could mean that there is some brief downtime between transfers. Essentially the more efficient the transfer system, the shorter the downtime. Since we use an API directly into Telkom's systems, we generally have excellent transfer turnaround, but I think with Telkom it's always better to see the policy in practice before making any claims :(

I have had problems with torrent downloads on my capped account 4mb account lately as well. A 4GB file takes 48 hours to download

On Tuesday, the download was dead for five hours.. (in active) I even had to switch to vox account to complete my download. It died completely at 97% after more than 24 hours. And this is been going on for a while now. Download speed of up 12kb/s at a time. Donload was good but lately it seems you are throttling a capped account. Not a Happy chappie at the moment.

Every network has to have a basic priority, like QoS, in order to function. This is not shaping, but just a basic protocol. This would be true even on a local home or office network, so that there is some logic to how the network manages traffic. We have always given gaming the highest priority on our network in that sense.

Same old story...

Definitely seems to be with latency we're seeing on our latency reports from the South :(

I don't think any of us intend to whitewash or make excuses, we know that in the South at the moment client's are having a generally poor experience between 9pm and 10pm when latency is extremely high. For the most part, outside of that window performance is better, but we have seen occasional spikes at other times as well based on demand. It's still generally that peak window when performance is problematic. We totally acknowledge this and we're working specifically to improve performance during that high demand period :(

We definitely don't throttle capped in any way, but it's possible that if latency affected the download communication, it wasn't able to restore the data transmission.

I'd be happy to test that download as well, but in general my downloads have been running fine :(

I can confirm that latency in the South is absolutely terrible for the most part.

With that being said, I was forced in buying additional data as my main ISP account ran out, with Afrihost being my secondary ISP currently. The cost of 10GB topup compared to my main ISP is astounding, with Afrihost only charging R50 compared to R290, which is just crazy expensive.

I really do hope Afrihost sorts this out as their pricing is amazing!

Again, please, WHAT is the cause of this and HOW are you specifically improving performance?

This is a recurring issue down here and again and again we have been assured that it is being monitored, optimised, tweaked and improved... but other than "increased contention" with "more than enough IPC bandwidth" being repeated... there is never any mention of actual cause or reason for this down here.

I cannot understand this increased contention with more than enough available bandwidth on your IPC.

Something just does not compute.

Months and months of degraded service and only reassurances of improvement are forthcoming...

I can confirm they fixed the problem at exactly 10:30pm last night.
everything dead, and exactly at 22h30, as if by magic, the problem resolves.

I still want to know what the problem is/was and if it is going to come back, or if they gave me a "temporary fix" to shut me up because I have been on here, e-mailing support, and been giving the rep a hard time via PM.

This morning your "wonderful" new support person on this ticket starts asking about electric fences and stuff... are you kidding me? Did they even read the ticket history?

Anyways the point is mute now.

Regards.

lol..really? I've had poor performance both on and off peak.. I run my business from home so I really notice. Its a problem as I am regularly remotely helping clients when Im in.

We definitely plan to get everything back on track (and more importantly not increasing our prices if we can). Hopefully I will be able to share more information so that I can put your minds at ease that everything will go back to awesome very soon.
