Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

There is actually very little you can do about SSL wrapped VPN, so I can understand the issues you are going through.
If it was an easy fix, then people wouldn't get out of the great Chinese firewall, or make VOIP calls in Dubai.

Well, if an Uncapped users goes to the effort of running SSL on his VPN just to avoid shaping I guess the User deserves it, probably just easier to go Capped or Business Uncapped though.

Maybe I should downgrade to uncapped, because that is not difficult to implement...

I realise this is the CAPPED thread. Reason for posting this - as is my understanding, business uncapped and capped come from the same data pool.

Yes it is, that is why my Business Uncapped is in the process of being replaced by a 10Mbs symmetrical Fibre link on an IS based ISP.
Not being able to stream or play games in the evening is annoying but not having a reliable Business service is a show stopper when you use cloud based apps, on-line archiving and have branch offices nationally.

Afripeeps,

Got a problem with line, my line keep de-sync, 391 / 1871 kbps where it should be 512 and 2048kb/s, I did open a ticket, but the support person only told me what is wrong with my DSL account, but didn't do a port re-create to fix the de-sync, it happening since last night. It was fine this morning and then I started running updates on my sister laptop I saw speeds only running at 130-150 not the normal 210kb/s.

Here is my ticket:

WLD-707-17643

Problems observed:
* There are problems with the quality of this line: Uplink SNR is very poor; Downlink SNR is poor
* 12 sessions lasted under 10 minutes, generally 2 minutes
* This line is running really slow
Notes:
* There have been 5 port errors in the last 4 days
* The line is not synced at the maximum speed (1604 kbps, not 2048 kbps)
* The uplink is not synced at the maximum speed (331 kbps, not 512 kbps)
* DSLAM appears 2.61 km away, max rate is 11800 kbps (36 dB)

Last time I had problem with that, the other support person helped me instantly and fixed my line at same time, don't know what is wrong now xD.

Business Uncapped accounts have the speed limit in place that Capped accounts do not have.

What speed limit?, when I bought Business Uncapped I was told It would run at my Line speed same as Capped, when was this change introduced?
It is a mute point as the line is moving over to IS fibre anyway but damn annoying if I have been fighting speed issues for months only to find you were crippling it deliberately!!!

No not at all - it is feature that YOU activate in client zone to limit p2p speeds. This is on business uncapped. It is your choice to have it active or not.

Capped accounts run at whatever speed your line is. Business accounts run at the speed you pay for. You can't go buy a 4MB business account and expect it to run at 40MB.

By speed limit I was referring to 2Mbps Business Uncapped, 4Mbps Business Uncapped etc.

A Capped account will run at the line speed at all times. Whereas a Business Uncapped account you generally need to opt for the package that matches your line speed.

Ok, I have been paying for 10 and running at 2-4, but like I said, mute point, it will be history by end of next month, they are installing the fibre as I type.

The line is syncing at 1871 Kbps at the moment, so this could definitely be affecting your speeds in general. I've just reset the line itself, can you please check on the modem if the sync has changed at all.

Is this normal?

Definitely not... And with the latency starting on the second hop already it means there could be an issue at the Exchange or with the line itself even. How long have you been seeing this sort of latency?

Afrihost- we all know there is a problem. How about giving us an answer: ESTIMATED TIME TO RESOLUTION

The moment I have an Estimated Time to Resolution I will let you guys know, until then I don't think I should give a vague ETR that will no doubt be inaccurate.

I can say that we're going to start testing on a possible solution and we should know if it is a feasible option.

Seems A for the way now.

Good to see, I wonder if there wasn't maintenance on the Exchange perhaps. Which suburb do you live in? You are welcome to PM me that if you don't want to share it here.
