Afrihost Capped ADSL Feedback (MTN) - New beginning

Roughly two months ago Windows Updates was not a problem, Apple App Store Updates was. Now it is the other way around. Remove those newly configured rules from your network appliances and watch this problem disappear. You guys just move the problem around. It is as clear as daylight - you do not have enough bandwidth to go around yet you keep selling and signing new customers. If it is not gaming, it is Youtube. If it is not the Apple App Store it is Windows Update. This nonsense needs to stop. You can try but you cannot suck a golf ball through a hose pipe. How can you sell something you do not have? Is this not unethical?

I'm not sure if you've been following the conversation around Afrigreen and why it's being implemented? It's exactly for this reason - to see services improved across the board.

I have seen the posts. I have seen Gian Visser's thread as well. It is just a pitty that this does not seem to solve the problem. Just check the posts in this thread. People say they see no improvement with Afrigreen. Why is this?

Things are improved though, and will continue to improve.
Please run through the Afrigreen feedback thread http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthread.php/712920-Afrihost-POC-Network-Afrigreen-Feedback

My offer still stands, I'm happy to generate Afrigreen details for you. I'll need you to PM me though.

I have gone through the POC thread. I currently only have a problem with Windows Updates, touch wood. I do not want to move onto another account and then I have problems similar to some of your POC users. That will be moving from bad to worse. Let me think about this first. If I decide to proceed I will send you a PM. In the mean time can you please ask them to look into this Windows Update issue.

We're working on providing the best possible experience on the current network, but ultimately the best improvements will be pushed out by the new network.

Welcome to MyBB btw :)

Weird problem I'm experiencing where my download speed drops to 1.2mbps - 1.3mbps on my 2mbps line. When I reboot my modem I get my expected 1.7mbps - 1.8mpbs. The speed lasts for a day or so when I need to reboot again.

I guess this is my modem and nothing to do with AH but some input would be appreciated. Nothing fancy D-Link DSL-2750U modem.

Would you mind posting your line stats?

@Johnatan56

My line stats:

Exchange to my location

SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio): 24.0dB
Attenuation: 22.5dB

My location to exhange

SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio): 12.0dB
Attenuation: 36.0dB

Sync rates are at their maximum, 2048kbps and 512kbps respectfully.

Those looks good, did you get them from the router or afrihost tool?
Have you tried using a capped WebAfrica/Crystalweb 1GB?
Also have you tried swapping the router/plugging out all devices on the line and plugging the router in directly?

@Johnathan56

This was from Afrihost Clientzone.

I have not checked on the results when using another ISP test account. I have not tried that no, will post results if I find a difference.

Here is a speedtest when my line speed is 'down'

Log from my modem:

Downstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On
SNR Margin (dB): 236
Attenuation (dB): 360
Output Power (dBm): 50
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 10272
Rate (Kbps): 2048
D (interleaver depth): 1
Delay (msec): 0.13

Upstream
Line Coding(Trellis): On
SNR Margin (dB): 140
Attenuation (dB): 225
Output Power (dBm): 100
Attainable Rate (Kbps): 884
Rate (Kbps): 512
D (interleaver depth): 1
Delay (msec): 0.25

I've noticed the same thing happen on my DSL-2750U, are you connecting to it via ethernet or WiFi? I had to fiddle a bit with the WiFi settings to get it to be more stable and not drop out regularly.

FWIW: A co-worker has been struggling with AH for months - it was a back-and-forth blame-game about his line, port-resets and all sorts of other shenanigans. He gave notice and switched to VOX last week and while on AH his 4mb ADSL line could never sync/run faster than 2mb (on a very, very, very good day), he has been running on >3,5mb with VOX.

:(

That's not cool. Do you know if he was able to try out AfriGreen?

Nope, he was never offered that option despite dealing with tickets since January (every month a few) - similar to me, he could not hold a VPN connection which was crucial for his work. I just asked him if he can give me a recent ticket number and he said "I am so over those {censored}".
