Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Cancelled my Afrihost Capped account after a long time :-(
Very sad. Gian also stopped replying to emails and customer service has deteriorated.

Reason: IPTV streaming became impossible - speeds of 0.6mbps on international, even though HTTP multi-stream downloads were at 500+ KB/s.

Moved to Web Africa Home ADSL Pro and was quite surprised - streaming is very stable. Much better quality on IS network it seems than MTN

This is gonna start happening more and more!

What kind of streaming speeds vs quality are you getting on WA capped pro ? Very interested in this option.

So I log in my Afrihost Client Zone today. The first webpage that I opened for the new month. To my amazement, I had already used 115 MB of data. I have absolutely no idea how that could be possible.

Leftovers from your session yesterday.

1 month of AH left, pulled the plug yesterday, can only keep giving them so many chances

:(

This is happening every single night now.
Nothing worse than coming home from work, or wanting to browse a bit over weekends, and my internet being worse than dial-up.

Code:
Pinging afrihost.com [41.86.112.73] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Reply from 41.86.112.73: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=50

I've jumped onto OpenDNS for now, but it's not a feasible solution for everything.

And like now, not only is the above really annoying, but international sucks (again).

Worse tonight than it was for the past 4 evenings, so doesn't look like we can blame people trying to use up their cap.

Can't cancel the data account either otherwise I lose my bundle price. I'll just live with it I guess.

Edit:

Local tests (to Cape Town MTN server):

AH, there is something wrong with your network.

i cant even connect to the afrihost website....

Loads fine here. I did send in a support ticket now though, I was hoping the past few evenings issues were due to "last day cap frenzy," so I let it slide. Doubt their support can do much about the slow speeds though.

Yeah sadly tonight is really bad. Youtube barely works on 480p for me, and I am usually able to stream just fine at 1080p.
I have the same issue with the bundle price - I'm on the old, cheaper price and can't change my package, at the risk of losing that nice price.
And yes, there's definitely something wrong with their network.

Code:
Oops! Google Chrome could not connect to www.afrihost.com

Try reloading: www.*afrihost.*com

Oh yep, now their site is proper down.

It's not just you! http://afrihost.com looks down from here.

I'm also on the cheaper bundle prices, not going to mess with it :D

NNTP flying at 4Mbps speeds.... on my 40Mbit line :(

No response to my ticket yet, this is something I already miss about OW - I would have had a new account already :D
