I was just about to signup and their website is down. So glad I have read these comments. Seems AH is NOT the way to go.

When their site comes back online you can just order a free 1gig account, try it out and make up your own mind.

Cape Town and Afrihost don't seem to have a very good relationship, if you're up north I've heard it's not too bad.

on a side note...it doesn't seem to be localised to my afrihost account...looks like my webafrica, afrihost and mweb accounts are all slow....

must be a general issue in Cape Town tonight

My Vox account running at full speed this side.

I have a 1GB and 10+10 account already. I wanted to get more or go uncapped.
Seems I will just get the 50+50. The 10+10 performs quite well. Was streaming the comrades from 06:00-15:00 and only used about 4GB. No buffering for the last 6 hours.

:(

This is happening every single night now.
Nothing worse than coming home from work, or wanting to browse a bit over weekends, and my internet being worse than dial-up.

Code:
Pinging afrihost.com [41.86.112.73] with 32 bytes of data:
Request timed out.
Reply from 41.86.112.73: bytes=32 time=12ms TTL=50

I've jumped onto OpenDNS for now, but it's not a feasible solution for everything.

And like now, not only is the above really annoying, but international sucks (again).

Don't know what could be happening here. If changing DNS gets speeds at full, it means its not a throughput problem.

Have you tried using our static DNS settings instead of automatic?

Worse tonight than it was for the past 4 evenings, so doesn't look like we can blame people trying to use up their cap.

Can't cancel the data account either otherwise I lose my bundle price. I'll just live with it I guess.

Edit:

Local tests (to Cape Town MTN server):

AH, there is something wrong with your network.

This is pretty curious - capped has been performing pretty well mostly.

Did you get a reply on your ticket? If not, send me the ticket number.

Thanks Afriman, I got a reply to my ticket early this morning. I was sent a test account to try out, so I will test it out tonight at the same time I've been having these issues.

I have had exactly the same problem. My 20Mbit capped account is almost unusable from 6pm to 11pm. All other accounts work fine during this time. Has been ongoing since Tuesday 27th May...so I'm pretty sure capped accounts aren't performing pretty well.......

Having said this - My mate on 10Mbit capped isn't having the problem.

That's very strange, shouldn't be any reason why the account slows down during certain times.
Have you chatted to our team about this at all?

I chatted with Afriman about it and was decided that it was due to lack of capacity at peak times..Just strange that it's not affected everyone.

What are your static DNS settings?
