Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Well, I am unable to play games anymore. What game you ask: Dota. To which server may be your next question: SA server. Really? Your ping should be around 50 you say. No Sir. My ping ranges anything from 300ms to 1000 ms. Its so annoying and irritating.

How did I establish its afri_host_of_problems?
1. Speed test (please see below)
2. Similar problems with gamers that use afri_host_of_problems as ISP playing DotA.
3. Tested a different ISP with test account. Stable ping at 50-80ms

Can anyone advise me: I would like to keep my email address with afri_host_of_problems. But I'm going to change to a different ISP. Giving my new email address to my contacts is such a shlep.

Thank you

Anybody tried WA capped pro yet able to give feedback versus AH capped and the problems being reported here ?

After reading about your experiences last night with slow download speeds and poor latency I'm convinced there's an issue somewhere. I couldn't even stream You Tube vids on 480p last night (even 360p battled to keep pace with the rate of playback). It just started buffering constantly. I have a 4mb line at home (Table View/Parklands area).

Any feedback from Afriman here?

Not getting full speeds on my 2Mb line, changed over to WebAfrica and I get full line speed.

Downloads running 60%-90% on Afrihost this morning. Not bad, but slower than usual.

20Mb line

Speeds are good for me at the moment..in a few hours time though that won't be the case :p
Just game latency that is always a bit high, no matter what time it is.

No, still the same. Tracert has quite weird output, as I seem to route via JHB and not CPT even though I am in PE. Also never seen hop 2 time out before. Hop 1 is my DSL modem, so hop 2 is exchange+

Pretty strange to timeout there, but your latency seems pretty consistent - so I would guess that it's at the exchange and on the line. Generally latency within the network is more intermittent (but not always)

Prices as in capped bundle prices?

We're reviewing how bundles work (you may have already seen the difference in how they are invoices) and our intention is to bring all the bundles in line so they all offer similar value. I can't make any promises now - but I think we'd like to standardise the value from Double Data to be similar on Capped Bundles.

It sounds like there are problems when we hit periods of peak usage on either the North and South network. The fact that this is not happening in the East, where our capacity upgrade was fully installed by Telkom, hints that this is probably due to intermittent contention when demand is very high.

We shouldn't see problems around this time of the day on Capped - as far as throughput goes, because demand is not fully at peak (at least it doesn't seem to be today). Are you looking a speedtest or a file/torrent download?

Any idea why PE now seems to be routing through JHB IPC? With Plugg (IS) I can see it goes to CPT hence the latency is better.

What makes you think that? Are you seeing something like that on a trace, or from the server that speedtest selects?

As of today my latency in Counter Strike is back to normal :) did you guys tweak something?

I used to see cpt-ipc-receive as the first MTN hop, I now see JH. Unless the naming convention has changed to confuse us all :)

i.e. news24.com is hosted in CPT. Now watch which way my tracert goes

Looks like there may be exchange issues here :( Are these issues constant?

Anyone else experiencing high pings?

Seems a lot better tonight, still not on par with my other ISP but it's not anywhere near as awful like it was the past week.

I wonder if they've fixed something or if it's just lower demand tonight.
