PE users with higher than normal latency, or 2nd hop timeouts:

Trying to work out if this issue lies with Telkom on VDSL MSAN cards. This is because I get timeouts on 2nd hop with other ISP's as well. Please confirm if you have the issue on ADSL and/or VDSL? It looks like this when you do a trace (using Telkom guest account latency drops to sub-20ms to CT):

Your internet should have come back by then. Drop me a PM and I'll check if we're seeing any auth requests on our side :(

No worries, it started working again at some point after I went to bed.

I have the same as that. always time out on second hop. Still waiting for feedback on that issue

Fernglen PE now 20/40 VDSL enabled.

VDSL modem ordered: check
Afrihost upgraded line pending: check

Holding thumbs there is a good increase in speeds and overall throughput.

Also - thanks for the bonus gigs AfriMan, much appreciated.

I see several people lost authentication last night.
Could this have been my problem as well ?
I lost connection at around 20:30 last night and no matter what I did my modem would not connect to AH.
It said Telkom was ok, 4096/512 but the Internet light stayed off.
I rebooted several times with no joy at all.
Only today at around 11:00 am did my modem suddenly connect and all is well again.

Afriman,
What can be done for Telkom to investigate congestion on the Panorama Exchange (011475xxxx)? Speeds and latency is quite poor between 18:00 and 21:00 on weekdays.

Panorama is always down when I check the SAIX noticeboard so I think there are some serious problems there. I don't think we can log an exchange fault though - Telkom looks after the exchange exclusively :(

Sounds like auth problems. If your DSL was fine but internet was red, you were probably affected by it :(

I wonder if you're connected to the same exchange, whether you are using VDSL or not. Seems to only be that one part of PE that is having this issue :(

I am under the linton grange one. spoke to the Telkom guy now and he is still going to check my line. maybe in 30 minutes.
will see when I get home if it is better.
AH reported the fault for me.

Let me know what he says. This is a very odd issue - never seen anything like this before :(

He found some corrosion on the port on the wall. As you can see this did not fix the time out issue.
I have done everything on my side. even got a new router.
and I am not the only one with this.

What I don't understand is why everyone in the South is not experiencing this. Seems to be limited to a few users. If I haven't asked this before, does it only happen on the Afrihost network - that your second hop times out?

roadcat suggested earlier that this may be a fault on the new MSAN in the area :(

I would not know. I am no expert and I have only one account.
