If you cancel now will only take effect end next month. The telkom line will take about 2 weeks to transfer to telkom. Should be useable during this time. You must cancel before the 25th. Note before. Some people have found out the hard way that on the 25th is not equal to before. Not sure about email but it should stay till the end.

Thanks - thus, the way i read it - if i cancel now or on the 1st of November, my service stays in place with AH till end November. I can live with that, as the mail forwarding rule is only needed for about 2 weeks. I'll then plan to contact WA around 25 November to start the process of signing up with them.

Lame! I thought I could cancel on the 25th.. Turns out it has to be before the 25th! Now I'm stuck here for another month..

Can anyone recommend which Unotelly servers to use on Afrihost. When using either of the local ones (JHB, CPT), Germany, and London, I get no connectivity. It works at times, and then stops loading anything. If i remove the static DNS, my internet works perfectly. Jeez, I am so sick and tired of this nonsense! There's always a problem on Afrihost. Always something... I will actually be glad to pay more for a service that works.

I know it's the 25th, but what if I downgrade my account to 1gb, or have I missed that boat entirely for another month?..

Sorry about this, we always start our billing run on the 25th or the next available business day after. But since the 25th and the 26th were both on a weekend, it would have been too late to submit billing on the 27th so the billing run was started on the 24th.

If you're still wanting to put your cancellation through, PM me and I'll see how we can work this so you are not tied in for longer than you'd like to be :(

Definitely looks pretty poor, but to my reading it looks like latency increase on hop 9 and 10. If that is consistent through multiple tests, we can report this to MTN to investigate.

Please email me on [email protected] if that is the case and I will log a query with MTN's networking team :(

Hi AfriGenie, I am getting extremely slow streaming speeds and bad latency on my Afrihost accounts, other ISP accounts are fine but my bulk is with you guys :( I'm in Milnerton, Cape Town. 20Gig capped acc (40 in total)

Sorry to hear this. We know that while we're awaiting further upgrades, we should hopefully see better performance in the South. However we can still troubleshoot as much as possible to see if there is anything that can be done to improve what you are experiencing now.

Southern Suburbs, Cape Town. Also been getting terrible latency and speed the past few days/month. I remember when my line used to run 100% perfect 24/7 about 2 months ago. What happened between now and then? Maybe Afrihost should consider undoing whatever was changed.

We haven't changed anything, we're just seeing a lot higher demand that we did a few months back. We're awaiting a further upgrade to the network to have more capacity to manage demand better :(

Also have crap speeds here. I'm trying to stream youtube on my 40Mbps line, but it constantly buffers. Speedtest results is useless since it doesn't relate to the user experience.

Afrihost, you need to get the South sorted out!!

We'll need to see what could be affecting your YouTube experience, whether it's a latency problem, or if there is not enough throughput on the line to support the traffic.

We could also wait for the upgrade and troubleshoot then, as I expect that the issue will probably resolve itself with more headroom on the network.

Can't get more than 650kB/s on any p2p download on my 40mb line..

So much for the IPC upgrade in the north. Didn't last very long, did it?..

Edit: And the clock strikes 00:00 and it's full speed again. Interesting...

The upgrade was completed, but it will take some time for us to create the various benchmarks on the network to manage the additional capacity effectively - basically finding the sweet spot where performance is at it's best.

River Club, 2.40 AM and my speed is still crap. like serious crap.
0.67 Mbps ....
So the North was upgraded or not ? Otherwise I switch to another provider.

The North was definitely upgraded and in general we are seeing much better reports. There could be some periods where we're not managing demand that well, and this will improve as we work on optimal performance with the new capacity.

Please could we have a more specific guideline of when we can expect the upgrade in the south?

Since it seems the south consistently gets last priority and it has a direct bearing on our network choices going forward it is imperative and the least you could do.

I understand that you need to rely on Telkom, but I highly doubt that they would schedule something like that without giving you an expected date.

Trying to donwload smite 50kbps on uncapped, 50kbps on capped, switch to different isp 400kbps. Ridiculous

That's pretty odd. I would imagine it would be shaped on Uncapped, but there should be no restriction on Capped or Business, so you should be getting full speeds, or at least better speeds.

Did you find there was a general different when you switched accounts? Is it possible the router did not revert to old settings?

I have been doing a lot of window shopping and trying to give AH the benefit of the doubt. If things don't get sorted out by at least the 20th of next month I am going to go to another network. It has been way over a month and all I hear is soon soon soon and I guess there definition of soon is very different to mine. I have not being compensated in anyway at all since there network has not been working properly. At the end of the day I don't care at all what is happening in the background all I want is what I paid for nothing less or more.

Unfortunately Telkom haven't given us an estimated date, but based on the delivery of the other two IPC's I would imagine it will be in the next week or so. But we've been given no reliable indication either way.

If I do get a date, I will let you guys know, but they didn't give us dates with the last two IPC upgrades.

I am highly sceptical. Past history shows that the other upgrades have no bearing on the south. In 2012, when you switched to MTN and had an IPC capacity issue, the other areas were upgraded promptly and it was months before the south was improved.

I totally understand your perspective and you are absolutely entitled to have that view.

I believe that in business creating a strong relationship with clients is important because there are technical problems and it's hard to always be the cheapest. But a good relationship of trust is what keeps the biggest companies and brands connected to their clients and that's what we strive for (as well as doing our best on the technical and price front).

If I recall correctly (for some reason this feels like a decade ago, although it's only been a couple of years) we didn't have an IPC in the South when we move over to MTN and the delay was not an upgrade per se but to actually install the core IPC infrastructure in the South.

Was hoping to have a fun late Friday night watching music videos in 720p.... so much for that idea. It struggled to stream at 480p.

Afrihost, you'd better start giving me a reason to stay here, rather than giving me a reason to leave.

I'm really sorry that you had this poor experience. Seems like streaming was not great over the weekend from the reports here. We're definitely going to carry on doing what's possible, but I also expect that once our upgrade is effected, performance will go back to what it was.

My internet today is suddenly better - twice the international speeds I got last week (although still barely half of local).
Something fixed? Or is it because its Saturday and Home accounts are not shaped to benefit Business?

It's hard to say. If you're in the North, it's most likely due to the upgraded IPC in the region.

What happened to cancelling before the 25th? I tried to cancel yesterday and it said the data will expire 31st November? So I just thought meh I'll cancel the cancellation and wait but I'm not happy.

Now Im forced to sit and wait for the South IPC and we all know that is the one that is always delayed. :(

Sorry about that. I explained earlier that unfortunately we had to initiate billing earlier than expected due to the 25th and 26th falling on the weekend. This almost never happens.

If you're not managing to cancel or upgrade as you'd like, please PM me and I'll work something out for you :(
