Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

I think telkom sets the limit at 6dB due to aging infrastructure and damaged lines, they don't want to replace since it would be easier just to limit you.

The 6dB limit I think gives a decent amount of room for variation due to rain or any sort of interference. I see with my line that it will sync to any speed as long as the speed does not push the SNR to lower than 6dB. So by default I get 11.9Mbps sync with a 6dB limit but 14.15Mbps sync with a 3.5dB SNR. So that is a small gain but makes a difference when downloading.

I think my line is the best you can can. It's stable with little to none variation in SNR so I can max is which is very impressive for my distance. People told me I would not even be able to get 10Mbps and yet here I am on 14Mbps ;-)

Afrihost still unstable this weekend.

Latency all over the place and packet loss... then works for a short while as it should... aaaand then titsup again.

This just does-not-compute...

I wonder if there will be a "the real reason" admission / confession any time soon.

It's been fun Afrihost, cheers.

What's your throughput before and after the tweak?

Well on default settings the max sync that the line tends to go is 12Mbps which is about 1.25MB/s. With the tweak I push it up to 14.15Mbps and get a download speed of 1.5MB/s so there is a difference. You will only really notice it on direct link downloads. p2p tend to be like a yoyo unless you download from private torrent sites.

Speed on Afrihost capped the weekend downloading from justseed.it with the tweak :-)

Going to cancel our AH capped account at the office too, no amount of double data can make up for the complete ballsup this network is right now.

Just look at this packet loss:

AH (Capped) Line:

OpenWeb (Capped) Line:

Hardly any traffic is going through the AH line because pfSense is sending it through the one that doesn't have constant packet loss.

I'm going to cancel as well this has gone on for far to long. I couldn't stream at all last night. Feels the same as when there were IPC issues

Good Morning MyBB Peoples!

From what I can see, there was some improvement over the weekend, but also some users that continued to experience slower speeds and spikes in latency.

This morning our network seems to be performing within the range that we would expect on a Monday morning. If any of you continue to experience any slow speeds, or latency please let me know so that we can make sure everything is stable.

I've downgraded my account and cancelled my Afrihost mobile too. Can get 2.5gb and 7.5gb night owl, sim only, from 8ta, for R99.

Going WebAfrica home capped for now. Must just get used to scheduling downloads for after hours.

200gb anytime + 400gb between 12am-6am for R599!!

There should have been some improvement over the weekend, the Networking guys did push through on Friday to try and get things resolved by today.

Was there a particular time during the weekend when the speeds and latency was bad?

Look what I've been blessed with yesterday afternoon and today :(
My mate is on the same exchange but different MSAN...He has no problems. Could my MSAN be dodgey?
Line stats haven't budged so don't think it's a line fault..

Morning!

We have generally found the spiking latency on the second hop does tend to be a line / Exchange / MSAN issue, and it can be an issue to resolve it with Telkom.

Are you still experiencing these spikes in latency at the moment?

Last night at about 9 things were dead slow could not stream at all had to download what I wanted to watch as it would be faster to do that than stream. Streaming is being shaped badly. Downloads are ok but I got capped to stream and not really download
