Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Well, my bad. I didn't know that they are referring to them not having enough bandwidth to allocate to clients as a case of congestion. Yes the end result of not being able to allocate enough bandwidth is technically congestion, but that however is then the actual problem. The problem being not having enough bandwidth to allocate to clients. :P Good luck with the wait till end jan for the additional IPC :)

The congestion referred to Afrihost not the exchange - I made sure of this when I spoke to support.
He told me Afrihost were in the process of purchasing additional IPC (not sure exactly what this means, but I know its referring to the ISP and not the Telkom Line)

why do I always get these reports before I want to buy. are we saying that afrihost's capped doesn't run at linespeed anymore because they don't have enough IPC capacity.

Well, Thats what the support guy told me. Said it would be resolved soon.
Generally I've been very happy with Afrihost, its just this problem I've experienced lately.

Hi All

Anyone been having problems with their download speeds during office hours lately?
My Line is currently syncing at 6144kbps with decent enough line stats. I'm usually able to get download speedtest results of 5.2Mbps, however for about the last month I dont seem able to achieve more than half of that during office hours.
Afrihost support said its a congestion issue and theres not much hey can do about it, but I dont see why this should affect me as I have a capped account and therefore should not ever shaped?

Afriman/guy any feedback please?

When we refer to congestion here it's related to the Telkom exchange, when this becomes busy/ overloaded the latency spikes which affects throughput and the overall experience :(

Drop me a PM with your info and the ticket reference number from our Support team and I'll follow up on things for you :)

"congestion issue" as you stated refers to your exchange to which you are connecting being congested. This has nothing to do with how/if afrihost is shaping. and AFAIK Afrihost and most other local ISP's don't shape most of their capped data products at all.

Correct, we don't shape our Capped products at all :)

Not sure where you heard this, we do have enough IPC capacity. Capped accounts will be able to run on a 40Mbps line, at line speed - we don't do anything on our end to slow this down :)

Did we say the exchange is congested or we don't have enough capacity? If it's the latter, apologies for the wrong info :( We have enough capacity on our network.

Cool. Thanks for clearing things up Afriman. I'm also glad to hear the capped data is still flying. :D

Thanks Afriguy.

I don't have a support ticker as I spoke to support telephonically. and didn't take down the reference.
Thanks for clearing that up. I'll keep monitoring and PM if I continue to have problems.

Cool, fingers crossed it's smooth sailing from here :)

This question may have been answered many times but I'm not reading all the posts to find out so......

Today I took out a 20 GB Capped package mainly to test what Afrihost is like.
However when signing up for the package they went and divided it down and instead of paying R89 for 20 GB, I paid R60.29 for 13.5 GB ?
They say it's some 'pro-rata' for the rest of the month thing.
Why is this, I wanted 20 GB as I'll use that up in a week.
But I will say I am very impressed..... bye bye u know who :)

Yeah Afrihost does the data pro-rata too. You can upgrade it to a higher package for the rest of the month (so you get more data), then downgrade it for next month.

Line has been super slow the whole morning. Something is cooking, yet the site says network is fine?

We are experiencing packet loss on our work's capped DSL and on the mobile data too. Sites won't load etc.

Can also confirm problems on capped this morning in CPT. Afrihosts support lines are jammed

Capped is f.....d this morning

That's one way to put it. This is my 10Meg line:
IS ADSL Local Speed Test to Internet Solutions New York Data Centre

Please wait testing speed now...

Start Time: 09:08:24
End time: 09:09:14
Download Size: 819200 bytes
Time Delta: 50.2006351948 seconds
Download Speed: 16 KBytes/s
Line Speed: 128 kbits/s
It was fine this morning. My daily episode came down at 1006KB/s.

Local seems to be okay though?
The RBA speedtest gives me 1100KB/s.
