Go and have a look at your client zone. I got the additional bandwidth! It says I have a 50gb account, but available is 100gb!

And I am paying R497 for it!

Is yours a bundle or just a capped account? I did call them and they told me that it didn't apply to the bundled accounts. Quite strange, but anyway.... If you have a 50gb bundle account, why are you paying R497? Isn't is supposed to be R397? As far as I can tell, the 75gb is R497.

I have a 10mbps 50gb bundled account :)
 
Just had something very interesting happen.
my downloads have been doing about 20kb for this month
not too good for a 10mb 50 capped line
I have the same capped line at work.
and just out of interest I put my work account on my home pc and began my downloads again.
for about 10min my speeds were back up to 600kb but then dropped to around 100kb
when I put my account back on at home everything crawls to a halt again.
Why are two accounts performing so dramatically different on the same line??
anyone have a legitimate answer???

Are you sure that you are not experiencing congestion on your home line. One thing we see is that there is a brief initial period of good speeds when you change accounts and reset your line, but it goes away once the line settles back into the congested resources.
 
Can I ask why the bundled capped packages are not doubled too? Now it's cheaper for me to migrate my line back to Telkom and just take a normal capped package?

We didn't include them due to the discount rates being very different and how those accounts are calculated

BUT ......

Watch this space for something awesome for bundled clients (or watch your mailbox rather) ;)

I have just put my home account on the work router and my tests are inconclusive on this side.
my home account at work is absolutely fine. net is nice and fast.
downloads top out at 300kb.
In fact my home account works better at work. so I am going to leave them switched around.
the only real difference I have is at home with the two accounts and I have no idea why?

I'm assuming you have a 4mb line? Either way, those speeds look low on both sides. It could be a routing issue, try running the accounts for a while, a few hours, then swap them over and see.

Also, run Zertop's tools to eliminate telkom and also try a trial account from WA or someone on another backbone.

i'm already billed the 399 for uncapped(i think) - so what i need to know is now that i changed my account, am i going to get billed R129 for this month separate? or was my previous payment of R399 for this month(April)?

I would need to check your account, but if you did the regrade before the end of the month, i.e. in March, then you should be billed the full new amount and the previous invoice would have been credited out.

I took the plunge and bought your 75GB+75GB capped unshaped account for April. Even though you guys are having issues down here (Cape Town) at the moment I'm trusting that the extra bandwidth will be installed soon by telkom, and that this will be the beginning of a healthy partnership!

Thanks for having faith in us. I'm pretty confident we'll be there in a few days or so. I'll update with any info I get on this from Telkom.
 
I am amazed how much data I am using since moving to capped. . . . I used to do 70GB a month +- on capped 4MB. . . Last month I used 150GB without even trying, in fact I have had to ration the past few days just so that I would make it. 100Gb ain't going to cut it, it seems.

Yeah, it seems like that, but I think if you count the GB's you end up using more (cos you're always thinking I could get this or that). I used to be like that, and always got capped. Now I just grab what I want when I want - I swear my usage has actually gone down.

Bundles shouldn't have got double data, but it depends on when you bundled. I've seen a few people who bundled just after we ran the promo, who got double data last month but then didn't get it this month.

ok im going to explain this carefully and as clearly as possible.

my line has been unbelievably good from day one, I loved the fact that I made the move to Afrihost.
but for this last month my line has been the worst it has ever been EVER!

I have tried my work account on my home line
I have tried my normal home account on my home line

when I start it up my speeds are good for about a min, then they dwindle down to between 20kb and 80kb
when I put my work account on my home line my speeds ramp up to about 600kb
last night I was getting between 400kb and 600kb all night long with my work account
I switched back to my home account and went back down to 20kb to 80kb

So if you are going to say it's congestion then please also explain why it is only affecting the one account.

I am still downloading at this very moment with my work account at home and am getting 200kb

no point in paying for something I can't use hey...

If you have a 10mb line, then you should be seeing speeds of 1000 not 600, so both accounts are not working properly, even tho one is performing better than the other (very strange that one). Still, try with another ISP account like WA, as they are on the IS network, they have a free 2GB capped account for life, , just to eliminate telkom from this equation. You can sign up online.

We'd need to run more extensive tests to determine exactly how this is occuring and through a process of elimination, try to determine if what you are experiencing is coincidence, or if this is repeatable and therefore something that can be isolated and analysed.

You'll need to drop me a PM so we can run these tests and you can demonstrate exactly what you are saying. Under normal circumstances there would be absolutely no difference between two capped accounts at all.
 
Can't you guys name your 50GB account to 100GB account?

It sounds and looks better when you log into your account and see 100GB instead of 50GB...:D

You might forget that some of it's Free - and you'll be sad when it goes from 50GB back to 100GB at the end of September ;)

What is really going on with this? I have the 50Gb capped package. I logged in today and still have the 50GB data package, whereas it was supposed to be 50+50gb=100gb.

Support said they could not modify my package.

I thought this was a blanket upgrade for all current subscribers

If you're in a bundle, then you wouldn't get the double data promotion for capped - but check your mail, we have a special promo for Capped Bundle clients coming to you very soon :)
