Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Believe me the capped products are just as bad at the moment. I am only able to get 2mbps from my 6mbps line in the evening... when I switch to another ISP it goes full speed.

Sounds like some capped users may have the same symptoms we're seeing on Business. It makes sense since Business is essentially an Uncapped Capped and draws from the same resources. While we're seeing high demand on the network in relation to available capacity, this could be the case - but will most likely be resolved when our ordered capacity is delivered soon.

Well guys it's official, Afrihost have found a way to throttle my downloads.
I am on a 50gig up to 10meg line and I used to get amazing speeds
but for this whole month my line has been stuffed!
my downloads are all going at less than 50mb but if I do a speed test (while downloading) I get 6-700mb
Now you please tell me what's going on there...?

We definitely don't throttle Capped accounts - but we are seeing some heavy demand in certain areas. Could we see the speedtests or diagnostic results you are mentioning here - the figures could mean different things

Dear Afriman/Guy/Girl

i changed my package from 4mb uncapped to 30gig + 30gig...

in the the clientzone, my usage on uncapped was 29.8gig used(hows that for irony)... now i switched to the capped package on saturday...

1. is it active at the moment?
2. am i still running on the uncapped until next month 25th?
3. if not, will i get a refund on the balance for between the 2 products? (you dont have to pay me back, you can just deduct the R129 until the R399 is used up)
4. why in the clientzone does it not show my data balance remaining if i have changed the package?

Thanks for the questions, hope I can answer them correctly :)

1. If you downgraded from Uncapped to Capped, then that change will only take effect in the new month.
2. You should be on Uncapped until the 1st of April. (EDIT: until April - not from April)
3. It depends on whether it's a higher value product. If you pay pro-rata, then it should change immediately. If you didn't pay pro-rata, then it would only take effect on the 1st of the new month.
4. Sounds like ClientZone still sees your current data link as Uncapped, so there is no remaining data amount in that case.

Im not any of the people that you have directed this at, but I know the answer...

1. You have the 4mbps uncapped at R397. Your account will still be that on their system. You have just changed the profile on the account. Therefore, it is reflecting the new capped account you will be active on from tomorrow.

2.You are on the uncapped account till tonight at midnight.

3.Their debit order run went through to the bank today, so it will be the correct amount going off tonight if you changed your account as you said on Saturday.

4. In Clientzone, it changes immediately to the new package you have requested, but the backend system will only update the changes at midnight on 31 March 2014. If you inspect the account more thoroughly, you will see that it has no limit (because you are still on the uncapped account)

Hope this helps!

I think i answered all of them :)

He changed from an uncapped account to a capped on from April 2014

Just had something very interesting happen.
my downloads have been doing about 20kb for this month
not too good for a 10mb 50 capped line
I have the same capped line at work.
and just out of interest I put my work account on my home pc and began my downloads again.
for about 10min my speeds were back up to 600kb but then dropped to around 100kb
when I put my account back on at home everything crawls to a halt again.
Why are two accounts performing so dramatically different on the same line??
anyone have a legitimate answer???
