Ok. Trying to stream 720p off YouTube and buffering is killing me. What's up. On 8mb line

Afrihost has the worst internet speeds I've ever experience.

I'm paying for a 10mbps home uncapped, and no matter what time of day it is, I can't download torrents faster than 10kbps!

It's definitely not settings, since when i choose to prioritise my data with the client zone tool, it goes full speed.

I'm paying for 10mbps and getting slower speeds than a 56kbps and I can't even downgrade and be billed pro-rata!

Afrihost...

@Afriman - speeds in CPT are poor again. Intl is problematic as others have pointed out. Local marginally better at 50% of normal.
Intl. peaks at 333KB/s but it's fluctuating. Local peaks at 400KB/s and is pretty much stuck there.
Not cool at all. We are all patient people... don't like to be kept in the dark tho! So share please.

A timeline of pain if you will, feel my pain, and feel free to suggest alternatives:

2014-03-18: ticket logged with afrihost support saying my 40mbps VDSL is performing very poorly

2014-03-19: notified I should retest as changes have been made, replied with test result still poor http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3380423934

2014-03-19 still: support asks me to perform a couple of tests comparing telkom guest account with afrihost account, I oblige and send proof that telkom is flying at 37mbps while afrihost is stuck at 5mbps

2014-03-20: support tells me they will escalate as they can see the telkom account is outperforming afrihost

2014-03-24: asked support for an update as I've had radio silence since this 'escalation', support replies there is a problem with my connection / router / some bs, I immediately reply referring to prior tests proving the opposite and reaffirm my line is syncing and has always synced successfuly at 40mbps

2014-03-25: support admits my line is syncing at 40mbps, tells me about telkom IPC problems in the area

2014-03-29: my latest afrihost invoice arrives for the full amount of a 40mbps account of course ... I shed a tear for the ZARs that are going down the toilet for zero benefit

2014-03-31: asked for an update as again I've had radio silence, I point support at the freaking news too http://mybroadband.co.za/news/adsl/99404-afrihost-adsl-performance-problems-addressed.html and my latest depressing speed test http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/3408585323 and include a screenshot of my line stats showing how beautiful it is syncing at 40mbps just in case I get more BS about that

2014-04-01: support tells me a telkom techie will be dispatched, I wonder wtf and whether or not this is a cruel April fools joke

2014-04-03: telkom techie phones me telling me my line is fine, I try to mask my utter surprise (sarcasm!) and ask him to please tell my oblivious ISP this fact as I seem to be speaking Klingon

Afriman, Afriguy, AfriANYONE ... WTF?!?

You in the south? If so it sounds like you will just have to wait for that capacity upgrade when it does happen.

Afrihost...

That is pretty weird. Even with network contention, the line should never be that slow.

Could you please drop me a PM so I can look into this for you?

I don't think international is the issue, it's just showing the side effect of throughput issues when we peak on demand.

I really do believe that these issues will resolve once the additional capacity lands. And if they don't, then we'll jump into these headfirst - but it's pretty hard to troubleshoot while a wildcard is at play :(

I'm in Tableview, Cape Town, and if I have to wait for a capacity upgrade I'd expect Afrihost support to tell me this instead of wasting my time with all manner of runaround as if I'm their rat in the maze

I'm also in Table View, also have 40Mbit. Haven't really been using my capped account though as I still have a 20Mbit uncapped account with another ISP, but I did test it last week and was getting expected speeds. I'm just seeing constant packet loss during the day with my account.

"expected speeds" as in actual throughput of over 33mbps? my first month with Afrihost was a constant 33mbps plus throughput 24/7, legendary performance

the highest I've seen since 18 March is 25mbps throughput, and it only lasted for 30 minutes, typically sitting at below 10mbps :(

on the upside I encountered the first proper, honest, straight talking techie in my life, dude told me "sounds like it is time to pick a new ISP sir" ... ain't that the truth!

Here is the speedtest I ran when I just got the upgrade:

the latest just now 2014-04-03: support tells me it is related to the Southern IPC issue, thank you so much Afrihost for lying to me and wasting my time the past 16 days ...

Exactly my experience over the last 3-4 weeks.

Radio silence starts when they escalate your ticket once you prove the Telkom Guest account and Axxess account you have fly, but Afrihost speedtests are suffering ... then you get the endless loop of April fools type "this defies logic" answers.

Amen. You are not alone.
