Afrihost CAPPED ADSL Feedback (MTN)

Hi Afriman,

I signed up for a capped bundle last month but the transfer was unsuccessful. I was then informed that I need to cancel the data portion with Telkom first.

Long story short the data portion of my Telkom account will be terminated at the end of this month and I'd like to know when I should contact support to restart the process of moving my line over to Afrihost?

Thanks!

You should be able to start the process if the cancellation is pending. Drop me a PM and I'll check if Telkom have removed that restriction.

I know that we're not getting the performance we expect at the moment. I do believe that the upgrade, once it happens, should make a vast improvement on the general experience of our clients.

Thanks for this. Personally I am a loyal person and have received great service from your team. I am prepared to give you guys until month end to get things sorted.

Thanks for the feedback.

I really appreciate your faith and trust. I know that we'll do everything in our power to keep our part of that bargain.

Thank you :)

It depends on the sync and level of performance when you connect. Sometimes an account will resync the line and perform well for a period and then start degrading (also depends on the cause of the degradation in performance).

Generally, all things being equal, both are capped accounts composed identically (except for the CLID restriction on Free FB accounts)
Well, I was streaming Starcraft 2 WPC from twitch, but using my 100GB account it was constantly buffering. After switching to the 1GB trial, there was still some buffering, but it it was much less frequent.

We've seen some known issues with Twitch that have these kind of symptoms.

Are you seeing the same on other streaming services like YouTube?

fyi Afriman, I've stopped using my Afrihost capped account because it's basically on par with my Telkom uncapped account after hours.
Not really what i would consider to be useable for streaming.
Thanfully I have a vox fat pipe to use but it's annoying.

I'm sorry to hear that - I know that we're not at our best right now in terms of the network performance. I believe we'll be back at our usual awesome performance as soon as we get the upgrades we've been promised.

But just wanna say thank you for sticking around and giving us a chance to fix things :)

Does this mean Capped Accounts will be back to full unshaped 24/7 example on par with the 1gb free test accounts once the network is upgraded? :) If so awesome

Capped accounts are unshaped - but artefacts due to contention may feel like shaping in some instances.

I do expect that there will be an immediate effect on performance, but there is noway to really predict how the network will react as demand settles. I feel confident that we'll be performing well within what we and our clients envision until our next upgrade comes along.

I really hope this is the case.

As Electric said above, the AH capped account is no better currently than the nightmare that was/is Telkom uncapped tbh.

A far cry from what I experienced previously and what made me move my line over to you.

We really expect the bump in capacity to relieve a lot of symptoms we're seeing at the moment. But I do appreciate that you are holding on with us - it really does mean a lot :)

Hi Afriman, do you have a realistic idea of when the upgrades could potentially be put in place? Sorry if you've mentioned it already, I'm just curious as I'm getting 10-20kb/s at peak times with a 4mb line, which is rather unbearable, and want to be able to determine how much of this speed loss is due to the Afrihost capped account as opposed to the congestion at my exchange (kelvin6 I think the exchange is). Thanks for your help

Telkom have said that the capacity should be live before/ on the 18th April.

Any kind of compensation for pain and suffering - like.......mmmmmmm..........aaaaaaaaaahh, say triple your cap for the next 6 months

Terrible performance in CPT at the moment.
247kbps  on my 10mbps line.
Worse than it's ever been.
Afriman... feedback please.
