Look it's buffering at 384kbps:

All I can say is I feel for you AfriGuy, having to deal with so many irate users is always a challenge. Here's hoping the situation improves in the near future. I myself have suffered with crappy internet for the past few months and just purchases bandwidth from other ISPs until things sort themselves out. Been doing this each time an ISP goes over a bump, which happens more than the average user would suspect.

To all the moaners and groaners, do yourself a favour, get an account with every single ISP you can think of, use them when the product is good, suspend when it gets bad, rinse and repeat.
+1

I am not having bad experience with my normal browsing. Downloads are ok too. Torrents are affected. But I hardly do that now with netflix anyway. If you really need torrents then get another account for that and switch between the two. I have free gig with wa and axxess. Hardly use them but have it just incase. No point moaning at the reps. They doing the best they can. Not their fault that there was bad planning. Hopefully it will pass soon then everyone can be happy again.

If they were honest about it sure.

But check out what was in my inbox today:

Pure Internet Joy!

This is the end result of trying to get Afrihost to at least restore functionality.

Getting 0.24Mbps when used to getting 38Mbps and having to turn to MBB for answers is not "Copacetic"

We are a business, we just need a bit of truth with a smattering of direct honesty and solutions can be found to the frustration.

Keeping us on hold forever only to be sent the above kind of email is purely insulting.

So 0.24 on a 40mbps VDSL is then "normal" by Afrihost standards. Disturbing. With knowing the history of the recent complaints it appears condescending too on AH's part.

You'll find support desk / call center staff are completely oblivious to any network/technical issues 90% of the time. They are trained to follow steps on a script to try and troubleshoot your problem, and escalate it if you're still complaining at the end of it. Likely the action plan for your email was "Check network status on afrihost.com, all good, respond to email".

Hmmm...

So, according to the Afrihost homepage there are absolutely no problems in Afrihost Land.
No internal communication to support staff about IPC imminent upgrades or anything other than a screenshot of the status on their homepage.

So, support will wait for the network status page to tell them of any problems, and then they can share these with clients.

Just HOW does this even begin to be classified as support?

Rockstars... ? More like meh.

Maybe they are all reading from the same page in Awesome[SUP](TM)[/SUP]Land, but they are all reading from different books it seems.

Words fail me.

If they were honest about it sure.

What else are we suppose to do?

The moaning only helps until it gets brushed off with copy paste replies.

Don't get me wrong, I hammer the support techs if there are issues, however, switching between ISPs has saved me a good couple of grey hair. I don't even do tests anymore. If an account gets slow I switch and move on.

Ain't have no time for this BS! :D

That's pretty much the same attitude I have, why spend all your hard earned cash with one single ISP, spread the love, otherwise you hamper competition.

Looking at these and your next post, I see latency intermittent all over the place. Does seem to be a lot worse on our network, but also over 200ms on the second hop with other ISP. Something not too right there :(

I appreciate the support here. I do also just want to add that we may not have planned for this spike in demand, but plans were in place to upgrade based on current trends. I think we'll keep getting better at knowing when demand will peak and risk (on long term forecasts) until we get this to be much smoother. But we didn't wait until complaints built up to plan upgrades, we have a full plan in place but it was just set for later and we had to make it happen a lot faster.

If they were honest about it sure.

But check out what was in my inbox today:

Good day Gregory

Pure Internet Joy!

This is the end result of trying to get Afrihost to at least restore functionality.

Getting 0.24Mbps when used to getting 38Mbps and having to turn to MBB for answers is not "Copacetic"

We are a business, we just need a bit of truth with a smattering of direct honesty and solutions can be found to the frustration.

Keeping us on hold forever only to be sent the above kind of email is purely insulting.

I think there is a communication issue here and I'll definitely take this up. I've personally spoken to the support guys to ensure they have the information we have, and several people have posted email responses confirming that they know about issues at the moment.

Sorry that this response wasn't the best, if you have the ticket reference, I'll follow up with the person concerned and make sure that they are up to date. Drop me a PM.

We definitely don't give our team a script and we encourage them as much as possible to steer away from macros for replies. We'd prefer every conversation to be authentic. After all, we expect clients to take the time to give us information so it's only fair that each person take the time to read and reply to client's individually. Unfortunately the nature of a large call centre is that people will develop shortcuts. Sometimes they are useful but they should never get in the way of giving personal and client specific responses. That's the personal service we strive for :(

That definitely shouldn't be the case. We have internal communication systems to make sure we're all on the same page. I think in a team of several hundred people though, it's possible that one or two may not get the message or may be getting incorrect information, and we'll definitely continue to work harder through our Quality Assurance to ensure that everyone does get on the same page.

That's pretty much the same attitude I have, why spend all your hard earned cash with one single ISP, spread the love, otherwise you hamper competition.

If everyone actually called these corporate companies out on their lies and misdirection tactics the general consumer would benefit greatly from transparency.

Your solution is basically that should a road have a gaping pothole, drive on another road.

That is fine until someone near and dear does not see the pothole and is killed.

Killed by inaction.

I think analogies are really a way of not addressing the issue and can ultimately get blown out of proportion. Comparing your broadband to potholes and causing deaths is definitely a stretch. Let's respect each other's right to their opinion and choices, and I expect they will do the same for you :)
