Yaya... he should have done this as soon as the IPC issues were finally admitted to... and then kept up the communication during these "software" glitches.

Complete and total silence and then a marketing email were just kinda like a slap in the face... especially since we were constantly reminded about him having his finger on our pulses and knowing us better than ourselves.

Damage has been done and hopefully lessons really learned.

I think we'll always learn a little more as gain more experience. We still believe that Plus is a great product and hopefully we will still see a launch soon.

Cape Town <--> Johannesburg appears to have been sorted :)

I see we are no longer going via cinx:

Trace complete.

That second hop is still a worry though.

All in all the network is running well up to my expectations from my own selfish point of view.

Awesome :)

AH must have done something right, because this thread has died down. Tested another bunch of 720 youtube vids as well as netflix, and all is good.

Really great to hear. It looks like we're not pushing out major changes, so it means the guys are monitoring to see if the current status is performing as they expect.

Ping varing from 9ms to 21ms and line speed does not MAX out flat line but is very "spikey".

See speeds above

Fluctuating ping is definitely not good. If you run a few trace routes we can see where the ping seems to vary most and see if this is something that can be addressed on our side :(

Does not look great at all, but you ping (assuming local) should be below 60ms even at worst, but usually sub 20ms. Can you please post a full traceroute?

Should AH+ be introduce AH will become bankrupt with the double back money guarantee.

Wow, your latency is pretty terrible. Can I see the whole trace here, please? :(

+1

I voted yes, as I think the free double data promotion is the root of the problem - they don't have enough capacity.

Let all the people who don't like it move to Axxess.

We've explained this a few times. Doubling capped data has little effect on realtime data consumption, and would only affect the period over which someone may consume data at worst. We've run this promo several times and we've never seen a significant increase in data consumption immediately afterwards (or a drop off when the promo has ended).

Even though I just moved on. I still think the AH+ is a cool idea. If it is at the right price I don't mind paying for it. My only issue was the bad network issues and then being told there are non. Torrents still terrible for me. And Netflix was ok. Little buffering.

Perfromance for me last night was much better than it's been for a while. I was getting line speed on torrents, and YoTube was pretty decent. Believe me, if my daughter can't watch the songs from Frozen without buffering, I'd know about it :)

For me Plus is really cool. Simfy is pretty awesome, and I've never really used streaming before (I like to have a physical product I can hold in my hands like a CD or a Blu-Ray disc). But so far, it's all I listen to now. And I was able to get an extra Mobile Data sim for my wife's iPad. So even without using the other benefits, it's a score all around for me.

They almost doubled their capacity after moving to MTN (from 4,5 Gbps to 7,5 Gbps) according to the email that was sent.

We've actually probably more that tripled our overall capacity since initially moving from our old network. Right now we probably have one of the biggest IPC networks in the country.

Hi Afriman, performance has been steady for last couple of days now...back to where it was 2 months ago :-)
Looks like I'll be returning some of my accounts soon.
Please keep it up!

For me that afriplus thing is good for people who want a little bit of mobile streaming and simfy. For me I would think there are a lot more people who just want double data and wouldn't use anything else at all. Maybe do a survey to see what people actually want with no price attached to it.

I liked Simfy for the local content, they have a lot of tracks that you can not hear on international streaming services and are rarely played on radio. But after the first couple of days the novelty fell away and after a year of subscription I realised it had been used maybe once or twice a month.

In the end I canceled, took the cash I was paying for Simfy and bought the CD's of the South African Artists.

On the plus side it exposed me to a few South Africans I had not heard before but it was not worth the monthly subscription under my use conditions.

For me I use soundcloud and YouTube for music and that's more than enough for me personally

Agree!

+1. Only thing possibly of interest was the double data and I'm not going to pay R99 just to get double data.

I never used the Double data, in hind site I guess I should have, but I carefully counted my actual use over a period and took a cap that would meet the demand. When AH started giving double data I remained on the same package, treating the extra as a buffer zone. I Never expected it to last so made sure I was never dependent on it.

What annoys me about Plus+ is that it represents the thin edge of the wedge. We should be simplifying things not making packages complex. All I want is the best service at the best price for the amount of data I choose to use. R20 per gig is what got me to move, I didn't want Facebook extras, twitter Hunts, Double Bonus if you scratch the card. I wanted Unshaped Data at the speed of my line. AH spent so much time on marketing and gimmicks that they lost the plot, this thread shows the result.

I am not interested in 20Gig any time, 40gig midnight to 7am, 100gig if you use facebook on a hull moon. I Just want a solid network that provides the service I pay for. To my mind the money spent on marketing gimmicks is better spent on improving the network or reducing the cost.

If I want simfy or mobile data or air time or top ups I will buy them as needed, and not try to calculate the true value of a package by adding this, subtracting that and dividing by number of months etc.

I think it was never the intention for this to be a one-size-fits-all solution, this is just an add-one for clients that want to add a bit of extra value to their accounts.

If Afrihost Plus+ proves popular enough, I am sure the options will be increased as well as some options to customize it.
