Cancelling my Afrihost Capped DSL and 3G accounts was the best thing I've done this year. Now using an Axxess 150+150 account with much joy.

Youtube completely unwatchable tonight. It buffers on anything higher than 240p.

Glad I'm not the only one. And this is in Randburg. Opened a support ticket about this yesterday, and the agent ran some "session audit". Did not work, still buffering. WA works fine.

Strange as AfriRep said the same caching server/system is used by Afrihost and Axxess. Why would streaming work on Axxess but not Afrihost?

Hmmm, there is definitely not something right at all. Are you seeing these types of speeds permanently or only during certain times of day?

The testing with the WebAfrica account, how long were you connected before you ran the speed tests?

Afrihost speeds are sub 1Mbps 90% of day - I hesitate to say 3am to 8am only time I can expect to see above that since i'm almost never awake during this brief window. typically 240p youtube requires buffering to have a chance at being watchable. occasionally 360p is viable and on 4 or 5 mornings at above mentioned time have i had unbuffered 1080p.

Both speedtests are fresh connections with modem + pc powercycle - no other devices connected - over ethernet with wireless disabled.

here's another afrihost speedtest: connection up 10hrs

Last Result:
Download Speed: 1289 kbps (161.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 419 kbps (52.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 23 ms

Anyone else's connection just died at 21:30? I'm in Cape Town...

Don't know what time it happened, but mine's all over the place again tonight. Not my problem any more though -- just cancelled my business account. If these people are still in business in six months, it's only testament to the masochism of their customers. I can think of no company this side of Eskom more deserving of catastrophic bankruptcy.

Good luck to everyone still dealing with these problems.

@Afrihost, I've been doing my sums to re-evaluate my current ISP and perhaps going back to Afrihost. Firstly let me say I was with Afrihost for 5 years, before moving on after having a terrible experience the last few months. Now what always tempted me back, even despite of the the issues that could be experienced from time to time, was the price. Now with my "new" ISP I'm paying R100p/m more, but am receiving 170GB more data (yes it is after midnight, so I wan't be using that much, but many people would).

So back to my point, now with Afrihost+ replacing Double Data, there is now only about R30 difference between Afrihost and my current ISP. Yes I know of the value add you get with AH+, but I don't need all the other gimmicks that comes with it. What I want is a solid internet experience at home for me and all the devices my family use. This I have been getting, It is very refreshing not having any issues, when I want to download something, or my wife wants to stream her tv shows etc. this is how the internet should be! Would I have given this up in the hope of Afrihost having sorted out their issues and saving R100pm, perhaps. Would I give it up for R30pm, not a chance!

Maybe it is just me thinking like this, but your packages/value-adds are well structured, but doesn't mean a thing if it doesn't perform optimally. Since September not one week has passed where there hasn't been some kind of issue. Please fix the basics (long term fixes) before asking your clients to pay more for something they already had, perhaps see it as compensation for all the problems they have had with Afrihost.

I called it! DD is finishing end of this month! Despite the constant "reassurances" from the Afrigents that nothing is final, but it was inevitable.

Ill say this, the day AH's network is back to an optimal level (ie can properly stream content and play sub 200ms games) and they have packages dedicated to data only clients, Ill be back!

Misread mail, so it seems DD is ending for mobile...

But that is only applicable to your last sentence.

Agh dude I have no doubt they have been receiving major backlash for this DD thing. I reckon the only reason its still around is the threat of their offices being burned down. Regardless of what AH says, AH+ is designed to do away with double data currently and the fact that its still around means that for the next 6 months more profit losses will be had.

Double Data was extended by Gian as a way of starting to make up for the issues that many of our clients have experienced over the past two months. Double Data for Mobile was supposed to end many months ago, we only managed to keep it going for as long as we have due to certain arrangements that we could make.

ADSL Double Data on the other hand was probably going to be extended, despite what everyone says about Plus+ meaning the end of all Double Data.

There are some issues with Youtube at the moment, but you should definitely not be seeing such significant drop in your speeds. Are your speeds continuously that low? Or is this only during certain times of the day?

Flip this is getting old... So then what's the point of AH+???? if double data is staying why spend an additional R99 for 500mb mobile data and a singsong site? Why hasn't there been an adjustment for ADSL users price wise, to compensate for a package that half of its "features" are made redundant for the next 6 months?
