This morning things seem to be back to normal, youtube working well again.

Glad to hear it.

Your speeds for local seemed OK but you were definitely seeing a lot more latency than you should have. That might explain why local speeds seemed OK but international was very poor with compounded latency.

If this happens again tonight, please ping bras.afrihost.com so we can see the latency on your second hop (which is the local Telkom infrastructure).

your pings are not what we'd like to see. Generally we expect 10ms or less to the bras IP, so this could mean this is a local congestion issue. Pings of 83ms are definitely going to compound latency on international destinations and affect speeds :(

What does the max rate mean in pic? I'm currently on a 4mb line...

Anyone else in the Western Cape been experiencing degraded DSL service recently?

This is my situation right now (20Mbps VDSL): http://www.speedtest.net/my-result/6627356181

It's not always that bad. I get decent local speeds and i'm able to watch HD YouTube and Netflix...sometimes :) however streaming international content such as on twitch.tv or video's from nytimes.com is impossible - even when my speed looks better.

Afrihost and Openserve have been looking at my problem for around two months already :( apparently all tests are passing, no congestion, no faults. Vodacom 3G performs way better, and i'm able to view content from those same servers without any issues.

I live ~500m from my exchange. Used to be on a 10Mbps ADSL line about two months ago and could stream HD no problem. Switched to 20Mbps when the problem started.

What is going on with Afrihost support the last few weeks? I am getting horrible response times!

When I PM the guys here on MyBB, I get no response. I PM'd you guys on 8 and 11 August last time I had problems, no response. I had to email the AH support guys that time.

Now I have a problem again, I emailed Afrihost support 3 days ago, no reply.

:( That's really far from what you should be getting. Have we logged a fault for your line recently?

Good day afripeeps. Past two nights I've had my shaped dsl capped account completely cut out and was wondering if this was an issue that you guys are aware of. It completely disconnected close to midnight on both occasions and stayed offline for 30min or so. My landline was working fine so I assume the issue is with the shaped account getting throttled until it eventually just disconnected. Would just like to know if you guys are aware of this or if this is another issue entirely.

I'm not aware of any widespread issues that occurred last night. I'll need to check the session logs, could you PM me your DSL username?
