Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Nope, I always check BRAS. It averages 17ms during the period. Also, quite handily, there is a speedtest (Vodacom) server in Port Elizabeth now. I always get full speed to that one (30mb down) and low latency.

We'll keep investigating on our side. We're pushing all these results through to our network team.

DSTV Catchup downloads are at a crawl

@AfriGenie.
Hey bud. You mentioned the AH team were trying out a few things. Can you please share what the team have done on the AH side?

The MC team indicates that the temp solution - drop a server inside of the AH network - will become a permanent one because there seems to be an issue with AH traffic going to NAPAfrica. I'd prefer we establish and resolve the root-cause because the above workaround will only correct the Explora decoder feed and not correct issues on DSTV Now CU and Live TV.

You can PM me to discuss further. Might be worth a telephone conversation.

PS: Still no contact from anyone from AH apart from you guys. Shocking? Or are my expectations set too high? Feel free to reply here.

So the temp fix didn't address Catch-up. I tested last night and the movies on catch-up don't really start at all.

Was that from your explora?
Share your trace route to explora.dstvcdn.com. Should resolve to 169.1.1.226. Won't have benefit from any other device e.g. tablet.

There is absolutely no difference, @afrigreen is simply another realm which connects to the same network and network rules. What might be happening is that after changing your account, the reboot reset your port connection and improved performance.

I rebooted my router 3 times while on the AH account, it still ran badly with poor throughput. I only changed to the Afrigreen account in the hopes it performed better.

Can also confirm without changing anything on my side news server is now connecting and downloading at my full line speed.

the best test is it works 100% with another isp i mean really 30KBs on a 10 meg line hence the saying it never works properly for longer than 2 days without problems

Unfortunately I can't guarantee your experience using overseas streaming sites like 123movies.is

Perhaps running a comparative test to sites that use Cloudflare and are cached on our CDN would give you better results? Try run a trace to fmovies.se

Please note that this is just for testing and comparative purposes. :)

Been having strange problems the entire afternoon. Nothing changed on my side, just started happening. Latency and speeds are all over the place. Speed tests even failing completely at times.

Local ping at around 200-300, with international starting from 500 and completely timing out on some services.
Speed tests are all over the place, this is an average local speedtest

Not looking good! :( This appears to be exchange related as your latency is coming in early. Please run ping bras.afrihost.com and copy in the results. :)

This definitely confirms exchange congestion. :( Do you know if your neighbours are experiencing the same thing?

Now try the same test with a different ISP account.

21:05, Monday evening. Had Gary on email from the Ah Critical Care team saying they are going to monitor my line tonight, try get to the bottom of it.

Ran speedtests via telkom exchange (speedtest.net) from 5:30.

17:30 - 42 Ms Ping - 9.82 Mbps
19:00 - 21 Ms Ping - 9.74 Mbps
20:30 - 130 Ms Ping - 8.34 Mbps
21:00 - 155 Ms Ping - 9.43 Mbps

Speeds are as good as I've even seen them this time of the evening. So, hopefully the guys have found\resolved the issues.

Regards

Alan
