Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Hi AfriGenie,

what is happening with afrihost and international online gaming since janruary latency has been terrible at the moment world of warcraft eu is sitting at 493ms normally sits at 180-200ms????

I have noticed an improvement in fb videos. It's loading faster. Will monitor during peak times. Do you guys have anything for facebook videos though? Like a server hosted locally or something? Facebook videos for some reason are the most problematic on the AH network.

Thats definitely horrible. You should generally be resolving to the UK/EU, so you should be seeing sub 200ms latency.

Can you post any traceroutes you've run for us to take a look at?

We do cache some Facebook content, and there are other local caches at different peering points. It really depends on the content and whether it is being cached locally (which depends on how often it was requested or last requested).

I don't believe this is a general problem, I've never had an issue myself :(

Hi Fella, I've been messaging Genie about my line stability. (Mostly my SNR readinings - Original Post #949)
These are the current line statistics on my 20mb connection

Downstream Upstream
SNR Margin: 6.2 10.7 db
Line Attenuation: 19.8 12.1 db
Data Rate: 20453 1021 kbps
Max Rate: 21476 1199 kbps

As said in the original post, my connectivity would keep dropping and I could see the SNR reading hit 0.1 at times when it does.
He performed a DSL line reset, and it was stable for a few days. But now the issue is back.

Genie mentioned that you guys can contact your Telkom Service Manager to drop the DSL line sync to 18Mbps, which may make it more stable?

Any advice mate

Heya xbxbau5! These stats seem okay, but your downstream SNR value can definitely improve. I think dropping your sync rate to 18Mbps will definitely improve your experience. Please PM me your line number and I'll log this for you.

Afri*, has your technical team looked at this hop in Cape Town? Still doing the same thing and definitely seems to affect throughput. This is only in the evenings, during the day it is 35 -50ms.

Something doesn't look right on those traceroutes. Hop 4 seems to be particularly problematic. How are your speeds looking at the moment? Which DNS Servers are you using?
