Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

With reference to post #711

Local speed test @ 15:06 today ....... unless mistaken, dial up was faster

PS: This is the result on a 4 Meg line, with no downloads, no updates, no games running in the background:

This is two minutes later - crazy, right?

You shouldn't be seeing that much of a difference in performance from one moment to the next. :(

The latency looks reasonably stable though. Is your DSL line sync stable?

From CPT on AH...

This appears to be the bottleneck to the EU.
if-ae-2-2.tcore1.KLT-Cape-Town.as6453.net

And this server IP en-route to the USA.
41.164.52.40 its registered to Neotel Pty Ltd

Are you seeing increased latency on those hops?

With reference to my pic in post #710, one can see that my connection drops frequently since last night. Logged a fault with Telkom earlier, as I did not yet receive the info on a test unshaped account to verify where the problem is. I suppose all I can do now is wait and see what Telkom says.

Is your DSL line managed by us? I can follow-up on the fault if it is.

DSTV Catchup downloads are at a crawl

Download speeds for DSTV catch-up content is down the tubes. YouTube is currently streaming fine at 17mbps but DSTV Now on iOS and Android devices as well as downloads on the Explorer are stone dead. Switched to Mobile and DSTV streams perfectly. Reported this on the DSTV Forum and nothed another AH user with 100mbps Fibre reporting the exact problem. Think there's a routing/peering/shaping issue.
Please advise.

Things have gone belly up again. Looks like a routing / peering issue.

Nope - kept it with Telkom (reasons for this decision was supplied to Gian on the two occasions that he invited me to move my line to Afrihost. I would prefer not to post them on this forum, but if needed, can post them via a pm).

At the moment I have a reasonably good relationship with Telkom, got a call within an hour after logging a fault. Their preliminary tests result reflected some anomaly on my line and was promised a techie will be on it within the next 48 hours. Will post updates when the techie has done his thing.

I got your PM regarding this. Let's hope Telkom can sort this one out, and otherwise we standing by to troubleshoot further.

Could you please post a full traceroute so we can see how the latency originates?

Could you please post a full traceroute so we can see how the latency originates?
Will do so this afternoon.
Interesting note... things spontaneously improved around 23:45 last night. Downloads flew from that time on. Not sure about this morning though.

Both YT and Twitch are crawling

Both tests are for YT

It was a mission trying to get these tests up on MYBB. I wasn't able to load any Twitch streams to do tests.

Latency snaps for today - for comparison with yesterday.
1. BRAS, as it was yesterday, is stable
2. Downstream servers showing packet loss. Only some were showing packet loss yesterday.
3. catchup.dstv.com is showing the highest latency spikes. Same as yesterday.

Thanks for the extra test results.

Are you now continuously seeing buffering and lag on your CatchUp or is it still only at some times of the day?

Erratic. The periods where things work are becoming shorter and shorter. An hour then things go pear shaped. Here are some mtr traces. Ignore the packet loss on the router... clearly ICMP timeouts. Included bras to eliminate doubt.
Latency starts spiking from Hop 7
