Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

YouTube very erratic over the past week, with auto DNS it pulls from 169.1.3.x servers, some videos play full speed, some buffer and some just never start, and you can refresh the page and experience this on the same video.

Changing to Google DNS and YouTube is perfect, pulls from 197.80.135.x Mweb server cluster for Google at line speed?

Something is not right with Afrihost's YouTube cache.

Maybe shaping is incorrectly classifying YouTube to the 169.1.3.x servers.

I doubt it, but I'll check with the Team.

Are any other services not running as well as they should be for you?

Everything else is good Showmax, Netflix & Facebook Video's 100%

Just YouTube is terrible,

Afrihost DNS (Auto) - 169.1.1.1 & 169.1.1.2

Streams resolve to 169.1.3.X IP Range (Afrihost)

Google DNS - 8.8.8.8 & 8.8.4.4

Streams resolve to 197.82.135.X IP Range (Mweb)

You can clearly see something is wrong...

That's perfect, thank you! I'm going to send these details over to our Team to go over.

I've been doing ISP hopping this year a couple of times. Youtube has its moments on WA as well, so I think it has to do with the local google cache rather than ISPs, in my ignorance. It will be running well, the next moment the Connection speed will show sub 1Mbps. Five minutes later it is well again. This is across different ISPs. I'm moving back to AH next week, it sounds like other streaming services are ok, hope it stays that way...

I actually wonder if it isn't more because some videos are cached locally whilst others aren't.

If I can help with anything going forward, please let me know! :)

Seems like a recurring problem. Noticed the problem around 8am and sent a DM to them. Up till now, no acknowledgement. I see Axxess have put it up on their network status page.

Not just limited to AH, have had issues with all the accounts this morning bar Mweb

Honestly, getting tired of this!
The support team email me back telling me to reboot router etc.
You mean they still haven't picked up that the Network has an issue :(

Morning Guys!

There is an issue in the East at the moment. We've seen a drop in the available capacity, our Team is investigating now. We've updated the Network Notice page.

Just an update guys, our Team believes that the issue in the East has been resolved, but can you please test from your side and see if there is any change.

Everything seems to be back to normal now, this happened last month as well? So what was the problem?
