Afrihost Capped DSL Feedback

Everything seems to be back to normal now, this happened last month as well? So what was the problem?

Our Network Team noticed a drop in available bandwidth in the East, it doesn't look like it was the same problem as last month which was a physical break in the fibre backhaul.

I'm having packet loss (7%) + very high latencies (140ms instead of 40-50ms) again in CS:GO on Afrihost shaped capped account:
Code:

Update:
So it seems like I was lucky when I did the initial traceroute with WebAfrica - because I'm now also lagging on it too, so I suppose it has to be congestion in my area. Its just strange that I have no packet loss on WebAfrica though.

Hmm... Please ping bras.afrihost.com to help check for congestion. Running a ping or an MTR to the CS:GO server in question might also give us a better idea of the P/L you're experiencing.

Was last night, around 9ish. Was able to youtube after 9.30pm but prior to that very bad accross the board.

Yesterday's issues cropping up again, packet loss all over .....

We'll keep checking with our team on this. Remember that we did have some traffic rerouting due to the issues in the East, so that may have had an effect while we were normalising that traffic.

From here...

to here 196-10-140-198.ixp.capetown

There is 70% packet loss on your network .

I'm trying to install an AV on one machine - update download speed 2.4Kb/s on a DSL line...eish.

What the heck is going on...Called Telkom - no bulk faults in our area (Cape Town East) :o

:( Were you seeing the packet loss in a game? Or on a traceroute?

Getting about 15KB/s. Can't even start a speed test. Switched from unshaped to shaped this month. Is it going to be like this all the time? Because what the hell.

Edit: Pretoria, btw.

Yep, same here.

My gaming experience has taken a huge drop, due to constant disconnects and huge lag spikes .... in a PvP situation, I am dead long before I even see the enemy

Torrents are also running at 1/3 of the speed it should (no difference if I swap the file order around - just in case it is a problem/restriction on the seed).

Speed test shows up OK, but Ping test, reveals constant packet loss on hop #8 (10Mb/s line)

Shaping wouldn't affect your speedtests though. :(

How was your streaming performing?
