Been having packet loss issues for most of the year while my line was uncapped with Afrihost and finally reached out to TelkomZA for some suggestions to bring this up with Telkom.

My tests below on Afrihost.
First I did a tracert and then completed 100 pings against each node identified in the tracert.

Switched to the Telkom again and did 1000 pings to mybb. 0% packet loss. So in essence i have been dealing with packet loss with Afrihost for months because I did not want to move my line.

Never. Again. Afrihost.

My fault for not moving earlier, but still. How they still have happy clients is beyond me, their IPC is so ****ed.

Thank you TelkomZA team for putting up with me.

look at my post history same here. Afrihost ignores my complaints here and on their customer support.

I have had it for months now! They blame telkom - telkom replaces my copper to the nearest pole

Telkom , webafrica and opencr@p work without packetloss. I ran the tests for them multiple times.

Eventually I got a reply:

Hi Chris

Hope you are well.

Please note that the following feedback from MTN:
"We are pleased to inform you that your reported Incident has been resolved"

Kindly test and advise if this is true.

Warm Regards
Dwayne

A minute later... guess what i had? YEAH packet loss.

If you want I can send you all my support tickets.

I've always had packet loss issues with Afrihost accounts, at least for about 2 years. Nothing ever seems to be done about it though.

I have had packet loss but that was due to a congested exchange and telkom have fixed it.

Since then I haven't had any PL.

OP lets wait for the upgrades shall we?

Just FYI my initial complaint was made 26 may 2014

During that time no effort was made to fix or resolve. They will blame Telkom I can guarantee it until you can PROVE it is just on their accounts.

How do you do that? Like me you install a second line at your house then run the account on both lines with afrihost and other accounts.

You then compile a large email with ping tests and packet loss results spanning both accounts. They will ask you to do this a couple of times till you start getting unpleasant.

Then they will escalate it for you and tell you to wait till mtn replies. Which they don't usually.

I have been saying it for a long time. Since the move to mtn backbone. AF's has gone down the drain. Like you said their JHB IPC is always packing up. And has been for a long time. And I am sure they knew this. And heck don't tell me they haven't. I am sure ISP's monitor their network. Now begs the question who is really manages their Network MTN or Afrihost. MTN I think giving preference to their mobile clients. Makes sense doesn't it.

I don't know about you but you can always pick it when streaming. Or browsing is a bit slower suddenly. Do a trace route and it s their.....IPC ping is through the roof or up to 50% packet loss. And seriously I don't know how you can game on Afrihost.

Webafrica so far is great on the IS network. No authentication issues etc. Great latency. I am still with AF because heck I got good 50gb bundle deal @ R450.00 . I use Webafrica as backup. And now running low on gigs. Don't want to jump on AF. Those speeds will be frustrate me to death ;)

the day aftrihost announces that's they're switching to mtn, I knew its bye bye good internet...

I guess soon we're going to hear that IS is going to buy mtn adsl...

afrihost reminds me of mtn in the early years when mtn customers had to run outside there cell phones rang...

Here too, packet loss, every single hop...

Things have been FUBAR at AH for most of October. In addition to packet loss, my business uncapped is now routing to Cape Town servers via Joburg (I'm in Cape Town). Various protocols critical to the business, like MySQL, do not work. You can report this to their support/critical care, but all you ever get back is spin. Nothing gets resolved. Ever. I honestly think that they have absolutely no control over, or insight into what's going on with the network, and they're all just saying whatever they need to in order to make you go away.

That's why I moved, lack of transparency

Why are still calling them Afrihost? Those days are long gone. I'm waiting for month end to switch to Axxess. Not long now.

All you can eat customers: not working for them?

First I did a tracert and then completed 100 pings against each node identified in the tracert.

It's easier, quicker, more accurate to use mtr/winmtr, which does the same thing but automatically and in parallel.
