Afrihost has mobile broadband plans

I don't know all the intricacies of this mobile technology, but I imagine sim cards have to authenticate on a network, regardless of whether it's voice or data. At the moment, I don't think the current network infrastructure can allow sharing of SIMs. What you could possibly do is use DUAL SIM phones for data and voice.

It's also one of the reasons we want to join the market, to give people an opportunity to choose where they get their data from. We'll definitely make sure we have viable alternatives in terms of connecting if you're on a different voice network :)

Its possible but the mobile operators probably wont like it....this is the biggest headache for you guys. The operators have all spent $1 billion at the very least for their current networks, you have to propose a value proposition to them in order to adjust their current "best practices"

Yeah, we'll have to see. The government would also need to play a part I would imagine. Getting private entities to integrate their networks is definitely a project that needs to proceed to with caution and care ;)

The Xtreamer phone comes to mind here. Nothing stopping you guys from getting a DHgate like phone and using their service to put the Afrihost brand on it, think it was like $8 extra. :D Quad core Android 4.2 Dual Sim Afrihost X1 phone for R2899, comes with prepaid Afrihost sim loaded with 100MB of data. :P

As with anything we do, we will always make sure that we do all our homework thoroughly before we bring anything to market. We're still investigating our options and what is the best way to enter the market, but at this stage nothing is confirmed. At the heart of everything we do is try to make our clients lives better - so we won't touch anything that falls short of the mark.

Thanks to everyone who has been so positive since this story broke. We are very excited about this new prospect to bring the internet to more and more people :)
If you are looking for test dummies ....

We'll all be disappointed big time. Trust me.
Only if you have silly expectations. Quality can only be as good as the network they are on, but they can really play around with pricing models and quality of support.

Will they pay a % of their TOTAL turnover to the USAL fund or only a % of their proposed mobile business?

I don't think we're that far along. I would imagine the network operator contributes to that fund though, but all that will be factored in when we finally bring the product to market.
