Haven't been able to receive any emails connected to my domain name, hosted by Afrihost.

Also, my website redirects to Afrihost's site.

Anybody else experiencing this? My account is in good standing. I have already sent them a ticket online, but so far no reply.

Also, I used to be on a email hosting for R 35 per month. I then upgraded it some time ago (probably 2 years ago) to a domain hosting, but Afrihost kept the email hosting package in place, and deducted the R 35 per month on top of my hosting package of R 49 per month.

I always saw the email hosting when I logged into the Clientzone but assumed this is normal. Never checked my banking statements in such detail as to detect the unnecessary R 35 being deducted. When I enquired about this, I was promised that they will check into this and come back to me with an explanation. Still waiting for that explanation 2 weeks later; however, I see that the email hosting has now been removed, without telling me why it was there in the first place, as promised. So in effect, Afrihost deducted R 35 per month over a period of 2 years plus which was unnecessary, nice cash in their pockets.

Not a very happy Afrihost customer right now.

Hi Johan

Afrihost should credit your account for the errors relating to the double charges - dont see any issues with this at all.
Afriman should be able to resolve this if you send him a PM - http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/member.php/192591-AfriMan

Alternatively, you are more than welcome to move to another provider, refer to the link in my signature and find Personal Hosting

Thanks for the reply.

I must admit, Afrihost was quick with a response that they will credit me for the double charges, after I sent them a rather assertive email about this. I will watch this closely, see how much they do credit me.

As for my website, it's still down and no response yet from their techies except that it was passed on to a senior developer.

Still can't access my site, and can't receive emails. I have my own little business, plus I'm currently job-hunting (my own business is an after-hours thing). So if I lose out on business, or do not get offers of employment due to their mistake, all hell will break loose.

I will definitely keep your company in mind, after yesterday I am seriously considering moving my hosting.

Morning Johan,

Glad that they got your billing sorted out so quickly.

Perhaps send Afriman a PM and ask if your query can be escalated due to the amount of downtime.

Hi Johan

It really seems like we have not looked after you as well as we should have. The double billing does seem very strange, as we should have upgraded you Email package to a Web Hosting package, so there should not have been any additional billing for the email package. Something is definitely not as it should be there.

I'm also very sorry to hear that you're mails and hosting are not working correctly for so long. I'm going to do my very best to sort this out urgently - but please PM me with all the details so I can look into this and find a way forward.

Sincere apologies again, this should not have gone this way or been unresolved for this long :(

Hi Afriman,

I phoned in this morning, and the rep managed to restore my site within about 15 minutes (during which time he put me on hold and all I could hear on the phone was..well...nothing).

My gripe is this: NO REASON was given as to why this happened. No apology (except yours now). All emails of yesterday was bounced back to the originator, which means possible LOST BUSINESS for me! And Afrihost just shrug it off. I asked to be transferred to a manager to complain, and was cut off. I then phoned and asked the receptionist to speak to a manager, and was put through to a normal technie again, who had the audacity to tell me that it was because of non-payment. My debit order admittedly did not go through end of last month, but I paid the amount within 2 hours of being made aware of this. And also that was 2 weeks ago, it does not have anything to do with my site going down yesterday.

Also, the "ticket" I submitted yesterday is still unresolved. But today's techie could fix the problem within 15 minutes?

It really sounds as though we handled this situation poorly, and I apologise for that.

I've got your PM now, will look into this fully and give you feedback :(

Well it has happened again. Not impressed at all.

Since the last episode, which Afriman handled very well, I registered a second domain hosted by Afrihost, which just points to my original domain.

Now suddenly, I can't receive emails on my main (first) domain and can't access my CPanel, and my domain points to Afrihost's site again. Bizarrely, my second domain is up and running in as far as I can send and receive emails, and can log into my CPanel of this account.

Due to the billing error, Afrihost has refunded me the full amount which now sits as a credit on my account and I don't have to pay Afrihost for the foreseeable future, so this can't be due to non-payment (as at one stage they suggested when I first encountered this problem).

I have sent in a "ticket" but no reply except the automated acknowledgement of receipt.
