Afrihost Hosting

For my sins, I have my and a few sites that I look after hosted on Afrihost! A few years ago this wasn't an issue with an up-time of 99.9% at least.

Yesterday one of the sites was off twice! This ended up corrupting one of the databases of the small forum used for staff communication. Today, this same site has been down at least five times and has corrupted on database which I have fixed.

After complaints to Afrihost in the past I've been told that WE need to optimise OUR databases! This is actually laughable when the server can't even be accessed by FTP.

Are there others suffering at the hands of Afrihost? Pure Internet Joy my ass!

I know a few people that had worse hassles than you did

My advise
Afrihost does ISP business - Stick to ISP with that

Find a specialist hoster for hosting. I use Hetzner but there are others

We have had worse, to the point that they were unable to fix the issue and switched servers instead! :wtf:

I somehow feel that "tech support" is in Delhi or Bombay now!

I am really sorry that we haven't been consistent with your hosting. We did recently do a massive server migration to consolidate some of our environments where we felt we can deliver the most resources and best performance to our clients. It sounds like something went wrong with respect to your hosting, though generally this has been working well.

I'd really like to investigate and find out why your products have been so unstable. Would you mind sending me a PM?

We do use some hosting support services in India, but this is a very small portion of our support (and the guys in India are generally on point with their hosting knowledge).

Hosting is a core part of our business. As far as I know, we are still one of the top three hosting companies in SA, so we're definitely a specialist in this industry.

So nothing has changed in the last 6 years?

My Afrihost VM's used to disappear completely while shared hosting was a complete waste of time and money. I eventually gave up and moved everything to Hetzner Germany for a fraction of the cost and 100% reliability.

We've changed a lot. We've invested in newer technology and storage and also changed our virtualisation platform for more stability. We've been investing in our environments and our team (which has pretty much doubled) so that we can offer the best technology, experience and support.
