Afrihost is breaking the law

I switched from Afrihost (crap with torrents) to Mweb and I've had good luck with them, no problems so far.. I use mostly torrents coz they're easy, and manage 150 - 180 gig a month. The torrents are slow in the day, but fly at night. Http gets full line speed 24/7.
 
AFAIK They have a 10 day rolling thing where they shape you when you`ve been downloading downloading too much.
I download 24/7 for 10 days, and then switch to a smaller capped account for streaming and gaming and stop downloading for 10 days.
That way I get everything I want, while still enjoying full speeds all the time.

Just figure out the system and learn to live with it.
 
Nice idea, but their "all you can eat buffet" has only fed me 12 olives (GB).

Sounds a little low, I get to about 25 before the shaping becomes horrendous.

12 olives is about 33 days of mp3s back-to-back so you shouldn`t have a problem :D
 
Face it all ... uncapped in SA suck !! unless you want to pay premium... seems OW gold is the best from what I have read. I for one have not tried it yet.

But on the other hand the IS express accounts work like a bomb, but they are pricey at about R1k a month and limited to certain hours.

Afrihost uncapped... tried it...bad..really bad .. really .. really bad...

Their capped accounts are really impressive and well priced, good speed and latency .. so I think I will stay with capped data for now.

Checked the Client Zone and my account is shown as active (no indication that anything might be amiss) Clicked through to the IS interface and it shows FULL ACCESS.

I thought that is what uncapped was for %@^#$%&&%@@$^%

So if their shaping / management of my account has rendered it unusable for anything other than a standby dialup connection then they should not be able to call it an Uncapped service ..... they have capped me.

I sorry but they have pissed me off enough that it will cost them more than my pityfull monthly subscription in time and effort to respond to all the annoying questions they will have to offer.

I have copied all their marketing material and in a fit of rage I will fire of a couple of letters to the IMA, ISPA, ICASA, ASA etc. bla bla bla fishpaste.

When you sign up you agree to the t&c's, which includes the 10 day rolling window and shaping policy. ;)

Never had a rolling window on my current isp and why must one have two accounts for different uses? and only download every 10 days... Not fair on consumers to expect them to go through such hassles.

You agreed to the T&C's before signing up, and you have a lot of posts, so I don't see how you missed all the threads (copy-pasta exactly like this one) complaining about this very issue.

(inb4 who gives a damn about piracy)

I read through them... especially the FUP when it comes to bandwidth. If you don't, how can you expect to come on here saying they are breaking the law? You clearly have no idea what you are talking about, and by the looks of things, don't only skim over T&C's, but all the other posts on this topic as well.

Do yourself a favour and vote with your feet. It's a lot easier and you won't die of a heart attack from all the rage.
 
Funny. I've always been under the impression one should be rather certain of one's facts before accusing another party of acting illegally. The title of the thread looks rather defamatory to me.

You might not like the product, many don't, but just cancel and move on. It's a lot less stressful.

In this context, it's called throttling.
Mweb uncapped is very much shaped. So much that it feels just like throttling, especially during the day.

So you pay Afrihost for 30 days and get how many? 20
Then you pay for 10 days of capped which costs?
 
bottomline is that on shaped uncapped accounts the ISPs(all not just one) will shape the internet you get....
& by taking an account with them you agree to their shaping rules.

If you want unshaped sign for an unshaped account.

about R90, I don`t download with the capped account. its a compromise, but worth it for not having a constant slow connection.
