How is it possible that a company can in good conscience sell an uncapped service when it is NOT uncapped.

OK, so I like to download music. The stuff I listen to is generally not available in music stores and there isn't a decent one for 200 km.

Is there any industry practice of actually letting the client know when you are planning to cap then or should they just have to figure it out for themselves.

Checked the Client Zone and my account is shown as active (no indication that anything might be amiss) Clicked through to the IS interface and it shows FULL ACCESS.

I pick up the phone
-.... eish ... sorry sir, can you do a speed test.
No, I can't the website won't open the throughput is that bad.
-Try this one
Sorry, that times out as well
-You must be using it to much
I thought that is what uncapped was for %@^#$%&&%@@$^%

So if their shaping / management of my account has rendered it unusable for anything other than a standby dialup connection then they should not be able to call it an Uncapped service ..... they have capped me.

I sorry but they have pissed me off enough that it will cost them more than my pityfull monthly subscription in time and effort to respond to all the annoying questions they will have to offer.

I have copied all their marketing material and in a fit of rage I will fire of a couple of letters to the IMA, ISPA, ICASA, ASA etc. bla bla bla fishpaste.

Ever voted with your wallet?

There's Mweb.

No need to get upset, simply cancel your account with them, sign up with another one at Mweb and move on.

I feel your frustration, but this has all been done and dusted previously. As far as ASA, etc, they are not in contravention.

Don't go to MWEB, it will take you 3 months to get what you download on Afrihost in a week.

OpenWeb Gold and MWEB, your only two real choices if you want uncapped.

Will take you about the same length of time to get a response from any of the official channels as well...

dont go MWEB do me a favour

and lets not go down the whole uncapped vs capped debacle again lol

:D

Wow so on Afrihost I can get 3 times my line speed? Oh wait..... :(

Mweb is giving me 440kbps on HTTP, I don't use torrents or usenet so no worries~

Well MWEB has A LOT of unhappy bunnies at the moment seeing their shaping people left right and center

You probably got an IS uncapped account. They are worse than a ho`s abortion. They dont cap you, but they will continue to slow you down till the line is basically unusable.

Its a terrible product.

Sorry to hear that.
However, I'm fairly sure it isn't breaking the law. They will have T&C which will state that they can shape you if they wish.
Mweb has never shaped me, so if you are looking for a new ISP, they rock

Best move I ever made was going from Afrihost to Openweb. Issues are resolved and with no finger pointing!

Going to Afrihost was without doubt the best move I ever made. Products great and service exceptional. Afrihost truely rocks.

I see your 1 post and raise you 3855 posts by OP.

Honestly, you just look like an afrihost employee who signed up to save the company some face ;)

Personally I have an AH unshaped capped account & have not had any problems.

from reading various threads over a while it looks like the shaped capped & uncapped accounts are the ones that seem to be the most problematic.

I will look into Openweb again, just feel like such a twat for recommending them to so many friends and family. However most of them don't share my downloading skills. I don't however believe that the full capacity of a uncapped account should be only 12GB over a period of a month.
