I bought a domain from afrihost without a hosting account and just parked it at their nameservers.
Tried to change the "nameservers" on the hosting account after their advertising says the following ("Full DNS Management")...

And I get the following in the response

Apology if we have mis-lead you in any way.

Yes you have control of the DNS management and DNS name servers.

However even if we update the DNS name servers, coza the registrar does

not allow the change of name servers without the domain transferring to

the ISP. Unfortunately we can not change they policy.

The best we can do is point the domain to the server it will be
residing on using the server IP address.

Since when does coza have a policy like this? Web Africa provides me the same service with no issues.

Either I am outdated as to the policies and procedures of South African Domains or Afrihost are trying to screw me into taking out a hosting account with them, coz they either too lazy or stupid to change a nameserver on their system???

I guess "Full DNS Management" aint what it use to be....

Now I need to have it transfered to change the nameserver... And I must bear the cost???

Who can smell Consumer Protection Act??? :)

Yes, that's bull****. You can change the nameservers with Uniforum anytime you want, it doesn't matter who name is registered to. By the way, the domain should be registered in YOUR name, not the name of the ISP.

By the way, with co.za domains, you do NOT need an ISP to register your domain for you. You can register your domain yourself directly with Uniforum (coza) as long as you can organise your own nameservers through a third-party DNS company like EasyDNS.com or hundreds of others.

Afrihost has been on the decline for a while now, poor customer service seems to be the norm now with them.

Sounds like somebody doesn't understand anything about DNS or how coza handles it (and it's not Afrihost)...

It all depends on whether or not the OP is a registered contact for the domain and whether or not he will receive a magic ticket if any domain changes are initiated. Knowing the practices of Afrihost and other ISP's, he's probably not the registered contact for the domain, and the domain's probably not even registered in his name.

Hi. Please email me at [email protected] with your domain name and I will see what I can do for you!

I am seeing alot of complaints about afri host lately and this is very upsetting for me

Afri host according to me is the Number 1 ISP in SA (totally unmatched)

OP why don't you just register a domain with your own nameservers and manage it yourself why go to afri host if you want to manage it ?

CPA is not taken up lightly I would not say that to afri host if you want the best to manage your domains do it through them or do it yourself (Its easy)

Thanks for the info. I do know how to manage and mantain my own domains. Heard good things about afrihost so I thought i'd give them my busines.. BIG MISTAKE!

I dont like being bullsh*tted too.. Dont pass off a policy of yours to that of coza policy.

I just came on here to confirm what I had in mind. Coz as far as I am concerned this is really horrible service and dirty tactics to try and get me to use your hosting service.

And yes. I've got a water tight case. I expect to get my money back before the week is out. Dont advertise something you cant deliver on.

whats the point of your support if I need to send you my information. Go look in your support ticket help desk system. I am not really in the mood to be sending of duplicate information.

Next question

Are you registered under section 2a on co.za website ?

You can check here

http://co.za/whois.shtml

I have seen this alot if I want the best support and fastest domain registration etc I do it myself I would learn if I was you this issue will come up again, its better to leave your business in your own hands and its cheaper also :)

True. But sometimes you need to "outsource" basic and rudimentary functions. Which seems to be an issue as well. Back to the basics I guess.
