Afrihost issues that needs to be sorted out...

My speed is suddenly much better tonight, especially from youtube. Wonder if they / IS did something.

By the way, did Afrihost tackle the 24hr disconnects? I remember a while back they said they increased it to 48hrs or longer but I have not seen it mentioned it in a while.

EDIT:

Did some more testing. My speed pulling from Youtube is fine now (38KB/s) but most other sites are still average (20-27KB/s).

i've changed the layout to 2 sections issues and suggestions- please feel free to add any you think are missing.

...in that regard i would like to see a page that which one can subscribe to via rss that clearly shows if there are any issues on the IS network.

well it would help a lot to know at least when something is down and it is not the isp at fault.

My dad keeps complaining about the Prepaid email he gets, he tells me their word are so that it sounds they will cap your prepaid and then not let you topup it again after its been capped and you have to create a new account.

Something like this? (Prepaid account)

Dear *****

We trust that you are well!

Please note that your account (*****@afrihost.co.za) has
used 50% of the bandwidth that is included
with your 5 GB Prepaid package.

The 5 GB Prepaid package includes 5120.00 MB of
traffic and you have used 2561.50 MB so far.

We calculated that you have a total of 5.000 GB bandwidth
(including all of your additional TopUp Bundles purchased) available for
this period and have used a total of 2.501 GB so far.

What does this mean for you?

Once you have reached 100% of your bandwidth your account will be
capped and you will no longer be able to connect to the internet until
the 1st of next month.

What can you do to avoid being capped when you reach your limit?

If you wish to keep connecting to the internet after you have reached
your limit you need to buy a Top-Up. You can do this by logging in to
your Client Zone , clicking on the 'MyConnectivity' link in the 'My Products'
section and then clicking on the 'TopUp' link to purchase a TopUp Bundle
before you run out of bandwidth.

Please note that your TopUp bundles do not carry over into the new
month - any unused bandwidth expires at the end of the month.

(You will also receive a notification for your "TopUp Bundles")

You can also check your bandwidth that your site has moved at any
time by logging into your Client Zone at http://clientzone.afrihost.com

If you have any questions regarding any of this please let us know

Have a great day further!

More than just ambiguous; the quoted email is what is sent to pre-paid customers, the contents of which do not apply to same. I can see why some of them get confused. Personally I think they just send out a one size fits all email at the end of the month.

so on a prepaid you need to topup before hitting the cap?

...this is sad. looks like afrihost will not be joining the party. suppose after pm failed i should try sending an email.

noted you as well in the op as per the wording being odd

It seems that Afrihost will not allow customers to modify or cancel their bandwidth puchases after the 24th of the month so I guess that I am now locked in for another month. Even Telkom allows you to cancel one or two days before the end of the month. G-Connect is currently offering 27GB for R389 which works out considerably cheaper than Afrihost's regular R29 per gigabyte offering.

well normally you would give 30 day notice because there things like the billing run to take in account, if you change at that late stage it's already set to deduct.

also this is not X is giving Y at R*.**; it's about afrihost getting better and sorting out their issues. you are free to make a new thread where you do a product comparison.

please in a decent manner list the issues you think they need to sort out first before becoming the no 1 isp. this is not a tool to flame or crucify them. it's to help both them and us as the clients.

Yes, the bandwidth reminders on pre-paid data are crazy. So here's the deal: I bought three gig prepaid. When I had used about two thirds of it I bought another three gigs. But now that I'm getting close to using up the first three gigs (87%, 92%, 95% etc) I'm getting bandwidth notifications every few hours plus SMSs. The text in the emails are nonsense as they seem apply to standard bandwidth not prepaid, and although they seem to acknowledge the extra three gigs I bought, it is still warning me about imminently running out of bandwidth.

They really need to get their developers to sort this issue out - it comes across as being rather amateurish, and quite annoying.

They're slow to uncap the account at the beginning of the month. Everyone else I have ever used I could simply reboot the router after midnight and we'd be using the new month's allowance. Not so with Afrihost.
