I'm actually glad this happened. Now surfing with GConnect. :)

Quickly registered and 5GB is R20 cheaper than Afrihost.

SO....if I purchase another 20GB it's a R100 saving for me.

Thanks GConnect!

I was with Axxess for a couple years now and just this past Monday I decided to move to Afrihost for International and WA for local...was simple and easy and not to mention much cheaper. R29 p/gb as opposed to R70. Plus...top up is just R14.50 p/gb. Brilliant!!!

This.

Another ID10T who does not read the entire page and them blames someone else for his mistake: :p

"*INSTANT ACTIVATION: Existing Afrihost clients will be instantly activated. New clients will need to take one extra step to verify their details by faxing or emailing through a photo or copy of either their ID or driver's licence after which their account will be activated."

Ta Roadrunner.

They might want to post it on top of the ordering page, escpecially if the new customer is using a 13.3'' display notebook.

6,379 posts and you have not seen any of the numerous threads before mentioning that Afrihost require a copy of your ID? It is a RICA requirement!

RICA is for Cell Phone users (i.e you use a SIM card), not for internet access.

our company implemented RICA requirement for one of the big Cell phone providers, and it's only for SIM cards.

Why do you persist with spreading this rumour? It is not a RICA requirement. If it was, then all the other ISPs would be acting illegally. I have accounts with 3 ISPs and only Afrihost requested the copy of the ID.

Gian stated some time back that the reason for the ID copy was to prevent fraud. Now you may agree or disagree with the reason, and personally I disagree with the requirement, but I weighed this up against the attractive pricing, and decided to go with Afrihost. It is my fourth month, and so far I am happy.

So please, stop with this RICA nonsence. RICA is for the cell phone industry not for internet access.

Top up is only R14.50/gb when the special is on...

That is true Randhir, however...a mate of mine has been with them a couple months now and they have been pretty constant in having this "special".

Been with them since the R29 offer and never looked back. The only problem I'm having with them is the quietness from their side regarding a uncapped offer. Come on Afrihost give us a hint of when and how much

Um oki.. Its a requirement by law for companies to have your Id on file. Are you paying by debit order? Then they do need it or can face the risk of large penalties. One cant just take money of someones account - its a process.
their support is great though its worth it!

Maybe you should just blank out your picture then they wont see you :-) or make a very bad copy so they have to guess what some of the numbers are - if you feel that strong that your details might be stolen :-)

Hey All

Just to confirm, this is not a RICA requirement. We are doing this for new clients, because in the past there was much fraud with guys registering, not paying for bandwidth so this is just an extra step. Maybe not the best step, but a step nonetheless to try reduce fraud.

Hope this explains.

Paranoid much? Is your surname Bourne by any chance? ;)

This article states that it might be mandatory for all ISPS to do that.

At the moment the other ISPs are all closing their eyes and hoping this problem goes away. If it doesn't, then Afrihost will already be more or less up to speed with it.
