Afrihost Mobile Feedback Thread

Time to speak my mind, but since I know how South African commerce works it might seem pointless. I used to love Afrihost Mobile, It worked great, greater than my expectations. But since MTN has bought Afrihost or whatever it has all gone to ****. I used to have 12meg per second but after this whole corporate move the connection has been ***, for lack of a better word. Might be coincidence but alarm bells are ringing Winston! Needless to say my love for Afrihost is lost.

And I will no longer recommend Afrihost Mobile, where I was a huge advocate in the past.

Starting to feel the same and I'm not even a proper client yet.

I feel led on here. I signed up last week Thursday, 28 Aug. My story is in this thread. I thought everything was peachy earlier in the week, since Afrihost made promises. It's Friday, 9 September. 2 Debit orders later, excuses that there are delays because delivery will only occur when the courier decides to pick up my parcel, when my area is "due for a delivery period" and when a "RICA Agent will be available". What kind of product is that? Doesn't the CPA cover this somewhere?

Edit: delivery slot, delivery period, tomato, tomatoe, who cares...

I know that I'm one who will use some words to describe how I feel about something. And every time that I have used words, which I really don't think is bad. Afrihost has delete my comment on Facebook.

Seems like they are really scared at negative comments about their products. And don't get us started on how useless their accounts department is. I try to stay far away as possible.

I once wanted to pay for my 3G modem in advance, since I took it on an 12 month installment, and they refused to allocated the money towards the 3G modem. Have never heard of such an company that refuse to take my money.

Please, please Afrihost I'm begging you, please improve your client services. And please sort out my mobile issues. Remember that we the customer is your most important assets to your company.

I can't wait for the politically correct public relations to be spewed tomorrow.
Prove me wrong Afrihost.

i had a laptop bag with wallet cards etc stolen, had to stop cards.
asked afrihost if i could make an advance payment, was told no.
thought it was odd, so i called back a day later hoping to get a different answer, was told no again.
called a 3rd time - then was told "yes" can be done, but . . .

and that was the start to a rapidly deteriorating relationship that culminated in seperation

Afrihost must get an badge for being one of the weirdest companies to exist in South Africa

i have never, ever, in my entire life experienced anything like their accounts dept.
weeks of delays in responding to mail etc, waiting regularly on hold for 20 min or so (& having to pay national call costs ct/jhb) - telkom calls to afrihost in feb cost about R280, jan was similar.

i would probably still be with them had i known back then that the only way to deal with the company was via afriman / afriguy here.

i certainly hope afriman & afriguy are being appropriately compensated for doing the work of half the staff of the company & then still have to keep a brave face whilst doing it.

I'm sorry to hear that you've lost so much faith with us. I can assure you that our negotiations with MTN have had no bearing on any technical or management issues. In fact, the deal is still pending with the competitions board, so nothing can actually go forward in terms of any changes.

It's possible that there are technical issues in your local area. Towers do go down or get scheduled for maintenance. And from what I understand from chatting to the MTN people, maintenance on a tower is a pretty big deal.

If you're speeds have dropped dramatically and are not improving, I would definitely advise logging a coverage query with them :(

When it comes to delivery, we don't make any guarantee regarding timeframe, due to these constraints. Also, remember that we bear the cost for the delivery. If you consider that we already subsidise the data (and SIM) then it comes at a big cost to us. We do our best to negotiate the best turnaround times and facilities for our clients keeping our upstream costs in mind.

I can understand that position, it does make sense. However, from our perspective it's hard to cater for every possible scenario. Payment plans was a new feature for us, and we've since discontinued it due to the admin and not being able to cater for some special requests, though by and large most payment plan options went off smoothly. We now offer a 12 month budget facility on credit cards, so that any negotiation regarding this type of scenario is between yourself and your credit card provider :(

We can do our best to deal with exceptions, but we also have to at some point revert back to an acceptable payment plan where a situation has now been in place for more than a few payment cycles. In some situations we do make exceptions and pass credits, but at some point regular billing must resume.

I'm always willing to chat by PM if you are not satisfied with how this was handled.

Not sure why this upsetting anyone, I've been saying this for a while now. I truly believe that a strong relationship between clients and companies based on trust and respect goes a lot further than people throwing their toys out. At the end of the day, we all want to be treated respectfully whether we are the client or the company, and many of us are on both sides at some point or another.
