Yes, my mtn and afrihost sims 3G has no data moving. on edge its working I will give it some time and see what happens

Have you tried locking to 3G only? EDGE may be a a stronger signal in your area but 3G (even weak) may be better throughput.

Its always on 3G, I locked it on EDGE to test it. What I meant was:

Locked on 3G full signal connected = no data is downloading but connected
Locked on edge full signal connected= Data is downloading but like we all know its bloody slow

I gave afrigenie my tower ID to check up with mtn

Pretty weird, but as AfriGenie mentioned, there have been some maintenance and upgrades to towers nationally over the past few months. I'm sure he'll get the low down for you.
 
so this is what I get

On ID 28677 with 3g

and if i force it to edge it moves to 58971 and then its fine so

If I take a MyChoice contract at MTN, can I bolt on a mobile data package from Afrihost?

The Afrihost FAQ says I can and just need to update the APN on my phone but but the call centre said I can't because the Sims are data only.

There are some MTN contracts that don't qualify, I think these are mostly TopUp contracts. Otherwise an contract MTN sim will allow you to switch APN to use our data. Maybe I'm misunderstanding, you can definitely use our data with the MTN SIM, you just can't use other MTN services if you get a SIM directly from us.

Mtn doesn't seem to have any top up contacts any more. They are all MyChoice contacts where you can set a limit and after that top up normally.

Can any one else confirm if they have been able to get it to work on these? Use my phone for data 90% off the time and small portion for calls and cannot lose my number.

MTN can tell you directly if they allow you to use another APN on those contracts. If you apply for an APN product, we'll also let you know if MTN won't provision the number.
 
Yea it started to work again ! on 3g yupeee
 
Guys, I am confused. I thought the Afrihost Plus will give me my double data and also give me 2 for 1 topups anytime of the month....but when I go to the topup option, then I just have the normal bundles?

It should do, 2 for 1 topups are permanent with Plus+.
Drop me a PM with the deets and I'll see what I can find.

You should definitely have access to 2-for-1 topups if you have Plus+ active, it could be that you haven't linked the 2-for-1 benefit to the Mobile Data account in question. You can check in your Clientzone, under Other Services and then Plus+, or you can send me your details via PM and I can check for you.

I see the mobile fifthteen and Mobile twenty packages are now listed on the website. Afrihost launched them officially when they canned the double data.

I got the twenty package with double data and keeping it that way with ah+ which is pretty cool.

We had the accounts for a while, but we kind of iced them when we did double data because we couldn't offer double data on them (we already make a loss on Mobile Data). For some people that much data is a must :)
