My sim card has finally arrived and I will be attempting the port later today. May everything go well. *holds thumbs*
Awesome
Let me know how things go!

Yeah.
@Afripeople sorry if I came across like a petulant child yesterday. I signed up because I've been really happy with my mobile internet and the service / help I've received from the reps here on mybb. I would rather support you than a random company I feel nothing towards. So it was just disappointing to see a pricing plan that, even now, seems entirely unreasonable & for which there is no rational explanation other than: "We've latched onto MTN and they dictate policy".
I understand you have much less say than with your broadband / internet services, but ultimately Afrihost have settled for selling the public a product who's function defies explanation. I don't know how even the AH reps think it's rational to forfeit something you're paying for (x amount of data p/m) if some other normal condition (like topping up your own data) is met.
Is there any way to remove devices from Client Zone? Seems odd that you can't...
I still have a Huiawei E5331 showing that I passed on to someone else a year ago!
Any ideas why I've received an OOB notification if my APN is set to Afrihost?

No. I ported from cellc to mtn & activated my Afrihost internet as soon as the port was successful. Haven't used the mtn APN at all. Not sure how they can bill me seeing as I don't have any kind of account with them. I'm happy to attribute it to a glitch and see if it happens again & I'll let you know. That's pretty odd.
Do you have an active billing account with MTN?

Seen this come about before, it's safe to ignore![]()
You guys should make it easier on yourselves and just state that all contract airtime whether it be the monthly contract allotment or a user top up expires at month end, just like the Afrihost ADSL capped contract wording regarding user top ups during the month.I think it's important to remember we're still the very same Afrihost though
The product is also very new for us, so I'm sure we'll see this evolve as the product matures.
Grrrrrr upon re-joining Afrihost (MTN) after buying three AfriHost mobile deals last week, I have now been inundated by spam MTN SMS's. Damn it, I hate my phone beeping all the time, just to read some bulls**t advertising about insurance or MTN prepaid deals etc.
I did punch in the MTN USSD codes to remove advertising a few days ago, but it still persists. What a waste of time having to delete all this crap, and put up with a constant beeping of my phone as more SMS advertising comes in grrrrrr
How do you tell MTN to stick their SMS advertising where the sun don't shine ?

Then behind the scenes whatever happens doesn't matter all the end user sees on 1st of the month is the airtime is zeroed and the new airtime allotment is loaded.

Afrihost gave me 2 USSD commands to run after completing my sim activation and I've had just about zero network spam, my number was ported from Vodacom immediately prior to having the sim provisioned on the Afrihost network.
MTN sometimes SMS at 4.30am be aware! I'm ready to assist in a class action if it happens again!!
Some of the many USSD codes:
*130*601#
*130*603#
The problem is the marketing department don't talk to other MTN departments!
As there is no valid opt-out that I'm (or MTN it would seem) are aware of, I still have a case open with ICASA as it breaches the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act but it seems MTN like to collect fines!! Legally, the opt-out code should be with the message!!!
Okay so my porting didn't go that smoothly and I'm stuck.
My data is working but I can't make any calls. I'm stuck at this point:
Simply dial *141*774*1# to give consent. When I do that I get two options of which I pick 1 to give Afrihost consent but it then replies with "There's a problem with your number. Please call MTN customer service." Or something to that effect.
However if I phone 173 then there's no option to speak to a consultant and none of the options that they list have really got anything to do with my query.
Afripeople, what must I do?
Remember that the USSD command is only for PII consent, which it permission for us to query and display airtime balances, it should have no effect on the ability to make calls. It could be that we don't have the MSISDN yet. Can you drop me a PM so I can check this out for you?
We are almost there. Through AfriMan's help I was able to give my consent. Only problem now is that my balances are showing as zero.
