Hey AfriPeeps, not sure what happened but something went wrong with my port. Phone is displaying "No Service" so I activated AH(I have not inserted the MTN sim yet) and got presented with "Your SIM card is NOT on the MTN Network\n", I then realised my phone has full signal still and is able to make calls.

I've contacted the porting department at MTN who said they would fix the issues, is there any way you can light a fire under them? Would prefer to get it done today as I need to make large package changes this weekend(Plus+ etc etc) and need everything up and running.

In contact with Gary from critical care who says to just let him know once the port is done to provision AH on the sim again.

UPDATE: got the SMS from MTN saying port is successful but my phone is still working on the Cell C sim o_O, have asked support to try re-provision to AH

Sorry to hear that :( Spam sucks!
Which USSD code did you use? It should work as a once off, however other spammers may be using the number too.

I used the following USSD code that I saw AfriGenie post...

If you enter *130*603# you should no longer receive any of the marketing SMS. :) >>>>>

There were 2 that were given in the Webzone during the sim activation process

Ok so now I'm "waiting for activation", any idea how long this usually takes? Also I'm still getting the CellC voicemail when dialing my number at the moment, is that normal?

It could be mid-port. As long as Cell C are aware of the port, it'll probably take place tonight after 10pm.

Mine took about 2 hours to port from from cellc. Received the sms from mtn and my connection dropped a few minutes later.

Well I requested my port yesterday and last night my phone started showing "No Service" so I activated AH in Clientzone and was told my number is not on MTN and I could still make and receive calls on my CellC sim. This morning I contacted MTN and they said they would sort it, got an SMS on my old sim saying port complete(could still call in and out on CellC), switched to MTN sim and requested support to re-request AH on it, clientzone says "waiting for activation", can't call into(get cell c voicemail) or out of(no package loaded) new sim, have since received another SMS from MTN saying port successful.

I'm bloody confused.

Since this is feedback, I'll give my 2c. Yes, it's been stated, but adding my voice.

I love that if my airtime is close to being depleted, the system will auto-topup. That's very comforting. What I do NOT like, however, is that this airtime will expire at the end of the month. If I make a rather lengthy call on 31 Jan, the system will topup with R25. Then, that will be lost the next day? No, no, no. This smacks of MTN, in my opinion... At least my contract's time rolled over...

I'm going to move over to Afrihost Prepaid, stick mobile data on there, and just load big chunks of prepaid on there. I usually always have data left, so can easily topup, if I need to. Or use an ATM...

2c paid.

I guess you could negate this by manually topping up :) So if you topup on 31 Jan, the airtime will only expire at the end of Feb.

Yeah, me being me will probably not realise this before it's too late.

But ... That's what don't get. Why does an auto-topup differ from a manual one? Riddle me that...

Yeah, I do get where you're coming from.
I'm sure there's a reason behind it though, I'm personally not sure why :/

Hang in there. I also ported from Cell C, and everything you explained happened to me. It took about 2 - 3 days for me to be get completely ported over and my data/airtime package to show in the AfriHost app.

It took about 6 hours for MTN to SMS me that they had ported me, but told me to wait. About another 2 hours later they told me it was complete, and I could put the SIM in my phone. I thought that would be me sorted.....but no, at this point you are only quarter of the way through. I ended up going to my local MTN office, with a fresh copy of RICA documents, because they said there was a hickup with the RICA.

Anyway, keep pushing them - MTN/Afrihost, and it will soon be through. In contrast, my other two Afrihost mobile deals went through really fast.....took a few hours to be up and running....but they were new lines. The process is very slow when porting.

I'm ported fully to MTN now I think so hooray! Now just waiting for the Afrihost activation, it's quite the handstand...
