Anyone else having problems today?
Friend in JHB says her Whatsapp's are not going through on Mobile Data with MTN APN.

MTN no throughput what so ever,

Richmond, Durban, Nelspruit, JHB and Howick all the modems are connected but no data.

Noticing sluggish performance in Randburg on both the AH APN as well as the MTN APN.

Seems like an issue somewhere on MTN's network...

Facebook flooded with "no data connection" problems.

I can't even open google and Skype spinning in circles, at least you have some sort of connection, mine are all as dead as a stone.

Hey guys! We haven't come across any general issues either on our side or the MTN network.. Are you still having the same kind of trouble right now? (Sorry about the late reply)

Yip,

All my Afrihost Sim's are sort of down, they show connected with an IP address and everything, but I am unable to reach almost all websites.

Some sites started working a few minutes ago, But Whatsapp, Skype and Mweb SIP are still inaccessible via MTN.
Facebook is very slow, Someone I know who is on a MTN contract can't get data services using MTN APN or SMS, but she can call.

So this problems is not only affecting the Afrihost APN.

That's very odd. Just tested my APN and I'm working without any issues :)
Drop me a PM with 2 example numbers and I'll see if I can spot something.

Does your MyMTN APN work?

It came back after the tower went down here for a few hours. Not sure what happened.

I guess wobblies can happen, after all this is a major network. But glad that things went back to normal fairly quickly :)

I think I am going to give Afrihost a skip. Just to be clear, no fault of theirs. I am on Telkom at the moment, but have my phone set on MTN roaming because 3G/2G is dodge on Telkom @ home. Have full 4G signal on Telkom at home, but then I cant get calls because the phone struggles to switch over from Telkom 4G to MTN 3G in time, so the calls just goes to voicemail. MTN 3G used to be OK, but it too have become dodge of late at home and in other areas. It will often jump between HSDPA and 2G, or will be on HSDPA but struggles to get data through. It is also happening often now where when I check my phone there is no data. Full signal, but no 2G/3G or HSDPA indicator. A Telegram I sent last night only went through this morning to my friend in the UK and got a scathing reply now cause it woke him up @ like 4:30 in the morning due to them being 2hours behind us now with daylight savings.

Think I am just going to go back to Vodacom. Only network I have not had problems with in all of my network jumping;. Maybe take out a seperate 1gig contract @ R69.00 PM and then port my voice number to prepaid and switch that to the 79c per minute tariff. I have a dual sim phone so could do that.

Totally understandable, I believe you gotta go with what works for you. We'll definitely keep pushing for better coverage with MTN, but they are continually expanding and improving :)

Ja, was actually looking forward to using you guys. I was very happy with my Afrihost data sim a few years ago. But ja, MTN have just become very unstable for me by the looks of things. Dont know what is going on with them and if it is specific to the areas I tend to be in (I am mostly in Parkhurst, Rosebank and Midrand) or if it is a wider issue.

We can always get their coverage team involved if you still have an active product. Would benefit all concerned, I think

Afrihost needs to get a cheaper past midnight plan or top up. Getting tired of having to load midnight express data on my other MTN sim card and swap it in my router at midnight.

We're doing it for DSL - so hope to be able to do that for Mobile as well :)
