Fully understand the implications around this, drop me a PM with your number and I'll see if there's anything reflected on the logs.

Hi there AfriGuy,

I was just called by Robin W from tech support based on my ticket XHJ-492-28420 -- he explained that it was an MTN network problem that affected about 10000 users, including a number of Afrihost customers.

If you are able to find out more about this issue, it would be great to keep people here up to date.

Not personally aware of something like this, I'll chat to the team to see what's up :)

A SIM swap will re-provision and de-provision - this process takes times - I've seen old SIMs still function a few days after a SIM swap.
From your initial post it wasn't clear on where you were using the APN, so on a new SIM that isn't provisioned, you're able to use our APN?
Sim swop done, new sim inserted back in phone that only has the Afrihost apn, Internet works like a charm. The new sim swop sim was not provisioned nor did I alert Afrihost that my sim had been replaced.

How is that possible?

Please let us know, I wasted a huge amount of time and energy trying to troubleshoot the issue.
Also missed an important call.
It sucked.

Anything is possible :)
As I mentioned earlier though, a SIM swap automatically provisions the SIM - this entire process can take a few days for one SIM to be decommissioned.

There did seem to be a network affecting some clients - still nailing down the details for you guys.

So the new sim is auto provisioned to use the Afrihost apn without me needing to contact you guys?

You'll always need to manually set your APN. :) No need to contact us, though. Just set your APN to "Afrihost". :)

Terrible experience canceling the mobile data. T&Cs clearly indicate that if we do this before the 25th then we won't be billed for the following month as they do their billing run on the 25th. Cancelled on the 24th, got a pop up confirmation only to get an email with my invoice shortly afterwards. Clearly somebody wanted an early start to their Easter weekend and did the billing run a day early.

The pop-up did confirm that the SIM will only be canceled the end of the following month due to a data bundle still active (I had purchased data the previous month and this was a SIM from my Afrihost Plus+ sub). But it did say I will no longer be billed.

Come 1st of month and the package is reloaded with 4Gigs.

Afrihost support (another rant) eventually respond today and say they won't credit me as the SIM is currently active. That part is true as its in a 3G router that at my Dads place. (MTN signal is crap where he lives so I'm moving him over to CellC which works there).

Will be phoning bank today to reverse the debit order and start looking at migrating my remaining Afrihost products.

That's not good! Is your device picking up MTN signal at all? Which area are you in at the moment?

The cancellation date is currently the 23rd of the month.

What was the actual cancellation date that was listed when you requested the cancellation?

It picks it up but says no service/emergency calls only. I'm in kommetjie capetown, apparently it's a widespread Mtn network issue, all over the country, they upgraded some node last week and things have been pear shaped since.

We definitely have been seeing more complaints regarding coverage lately... Have you logged any calls with MTN directly?
