Just chatted to AfriMan about this, looks like we've had to re-submit. I think something went wrong on the MTN process, he'll confirm once it's been provisioned though. Promise!

Thanks! Hopefully it's quick quick this time ;)

Woot! Seems to be working for the first time. Tethering on my iPhone and iPad has *never* worked.

Now that's just awesome! Maybe the other APN doesn't play nice with tethering. At least you have another option now :)

For sure! Another win for Afrihost. Unfortunately MTN have been clueless in helping me before.

Thanks for the sms reminder about changing the APN after updating iOS. I forgot about it and mine was reset.

I'm not sure if the TM LTE tower in my area is just faulty but I'm getting a much nicer LTE service with Afrihost-MTN. My Speedtests are more consistent and the download tests are smooth on the graph, not like a sine wave like TM. Still seems like I'll be better off ditching my B593u-91 and getting a B593u-12. Right now my external antennas are wasted on TM LTE. The darn speeds are so up and down. :(

@AfriMan @AfriGuy: any chance you guys will sell me the MTN Sharelink B593?

MTN's LTE was rated the best in SA by Tech Central not too long ago :)

Looking forward to those 20-50GB packages. 10GB is a bit of a joke, only for smartphones and tablets to gobble all that data.

We have gone through 46GB between purchases and free allocation. This without serious downloading and no torrents. I concur 10GB is just not enough.

/ADSL uncapped here we come again!

Okay so I have full strength 3G Signal, and Full Coverage for LTE as to where I am situated - 2km from The Dome / North Gate.

I have the Cel-Fi Booster Unit, inclusive of a Poynting Direct Aerial, directed straight at the tower - cannot get much better signal and is quite stable for gaming on both local/international servers - even with cloud coverage / rain.

So my question is, I have a provisioned data sim with Afrihost - on the 10gb package for R197.00 per month, using a MTN WiFi Pocket Modem - Only 3G Capable. I have had an awesome experience and would like to keep it that way - which I am sure I will.

I am very curious to see how LTE will perform, but my current modem does not support it. On the other hand, I have the Xperia Z, that should be LTE Capable - Sim has been enabled etc. but I do not seem to ever have an LTE signal on my phone :<

Any hints / tips / hardware to sell that will assist? :)

We aren't seeing any general issues on our end. We run through the same infrastructure that MTN does, so there shouldn't be any difference between the two at all.

Drop me a PM if you're still having issues :)

LTE is available in pretty select regions within SA at the moment :( Are you sure you have decent LTE coverage in your area?

I'm having the same issue as nasimshoukat on page 64 of this thread... trying to browse the web using the MiFi which has plenty of GB left but instead am getting redirected to an Afrihost capped ADSL notification page? Anyone else having this issue?

AfriGuy/AfriMan .. have PM'ed you both!

I live pretty much the exact same distance from the Dome and I'm in the exact same position as you, except I don't have a fancy antenna.

Although I get full 3G on MiFi device and gaming goes well with ping around 80-110 in game.

Now I have a Note 3 and although my Afrihost sim doesn't fit in this phone. I have played some games with my phone on LTE and it's Truelly great!

Ping is down to about 30-50 and I don't even have full signal strength.

Telkom has a LTE modem but you can't buy it cash, only on contract...

Really wish these mifi devices were LTE compatible. :D

Edit: just make sure your phone is set to search for 4G/LTE

If you still don't succeed, use this app

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cc.signalinfo
It will allow you to set your radio to only search for 4G/LTE. Remember that 4G/LTE does NOT support voice calls.
Won't be a problem if you use your Afrihost sim.

Didn't pay for any of the extra's (Boosters, antennas etc lol) - made MTN give me what I want - which any contract customer can demand as long as you are prepared to spend alot of energy on it - which in my case was a no brainer as we have no infrastructure for DSL lines (Agricultural Holdings - North Riding) and online gaming is of course a must.

What baffles me I do not have a LTE signal at all - The Xperia Z only has a LTE Preferred option. It's on the same, but no LTE signal has been displayed like ever - does North Gate even have MTN LTE coverage? I am quite certain my phone's NEVER displayed the 4G
