Telkom has a LTE modem but you can't buy it cash, only on contract...

People have bought from TM for cash but this won't help you since MTN is 1800MHz and TM is 2300MHz. LTE devices are not all-network like 3G ones are.

If you still don't succeed said:

It will allow you to set your radio to only search for 4G/LTE. Remember that 4G/LTE does NOT support voice calls.
Won't be a problem if you use your Afrihost sim.

Thanks for this - will give the app a go this evening when I get home.

My Afrihost provisioned SIM will not fit in my phone - only alternative will be to also provision my phone's micro sim for the same - which I will do in a heartbeat if it will give me LTE speeds on the Afrihost APN, and will ultimately mean I do not have to purchase an additional LTE Modem. Would be nice for Afrihost to reveal a LTE wifi modem with even better (bigger) data bundles in the near future - I am expecting BF4 / COD:Ghosts and the like to have huge updates :D

OK .... so Vodacom have now released a more affordable portable LTE mifi device. My question is .... is my Afrihost sim LTE enabled? How do I know this? If it is not, is it easy to have it activated for LTE? Must the APN be changed to something other than "afrihost"?

You're thinking of Neotel. TM use 2300MHz.

Yeah i saw that post you mentioned but why would they sell a LTE modem that is NOT compatible with 2300MHz?

They selling the Huawei E3276 which is 800/900/2600/1800/2100

No 2300MHz for the modem they selling.

Even the BlackBerry Q5 that Telkom Business is selling is not compatible with 2300MHz. They advertise the phones LTE which means it should be compatible with their network.

I don't have any facts about their network but I'm pretty sure they won't sell LTE devices that aren't compatible with their network...

Every Huawei device has sub models and the local advertisers don't show that. Each sub model does different bands. Whatever TM sells will support 2300MHz if it's an LTE product offering.

They will have to tell us before 25 November. Will not be happy with 3GB.

Tried the application to no avail - no LTE signal found in a area where I should have full coverage - as per MTN's and Afrihost's coverage map. That tells me that MTN has not implemented LTE in the area as yet

Phoned MTN to verify my sim is provisioned for LTE - and it is so not to sure whereto from here

See if you're able to find a sweet spot in the area. If there's no luck there then the area most likely isn't LTE ready :(
Is the SIM one of ours, or an MTN SIM?

If you like I can give a route from the North to the West where there is MTN LTE all the way? To be honest I doubt that your tower is not doing LTE. So far it seems to be pretty widespread. If your coverage map shows LTE signal, it's definitely there.

If your area and device supports it, and the SIM is from us we can provision it for you :)
Drop me a PM and I'll get on it.
