Its a ZTE vodacom dongle.
I thought the software may cause problems - hence I used the standard windows connection software.
I've been looking to try find the ZTE software but dont seem to be able to find it.

I suspect you need the Vodafone/ZTE software for the modem drivers. Once that is loaded you can use the Windows connection app. I've got a ZTE K4510-Z that I use with the Afrihost/MTN SIM in this manner. Is the software/driver not resident on the dongle?

Had no idea that East London didn't get great 3G reception. Is this in the main CBD or some of the outlying suburbs?

I can concur EL 3g is patchy. Main CBD really bad at the moment, but some suburbs seem the be stable..

Odd that your Mobile is being affected, we're seeing issues on our CPT IPC at the moment.

It may just be my mobile problem from two days ago that's back. I was hoping that it's because of the same problem. I will test again tonight though since it's at home.

I'm not too sure what an IPC is but we are located in Randburg and our ADSL isn't working well at all. Even to our servers that are hosted at your Bryanston Data Center, so it's basically next door.

*edit*
Looks like it's resolved now.

Thanks AfriGuy. Eh sorry that I moan so much. I should stop doing that. Everything is with Afrihost though. My mobile data, my work's ADSL, our cloud servers. So I've got faith in your guys.

No worries dude, it's completely understandable that you want to query what's out there :)

I just received my new LTE SIM from Afrihost, plugged it in and was overcome with 'PURE JOY' that it worked flawlessly the first time. I am impressed with the level of service I received as well... Keeping me up to date with SMS's and eMails, even on the weekend. Ordering was painless, waiting a minimal time-period was painless and their choice of courier was painless... KUDOS!!! All I did to request LTE was post a comment on their FaceBook page!
I AM GLAD I MADE THE MOVE TO AFRIHOST!

Eish man, AfriHost sounds so AWESOME, so I sent them a email asking whether or not their 3G was prepaid and this is the email I got i'm so confused. :wtf:

Hi Grant

I trust that you're well.

Yes. However, your SIM card needs to be on contract if you intend on making use of our APN. If you'd like a new SIM all together we'll deliver for free and once you're capped/reach your data usage you can always top up your account.

Apologies for any inconvenience caused or the delayed response.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any queries.

Kind Regards
Lucky .M

So this means I need to get a monthly SIM from them, I don't have money every month to pay in, so that's why I use prepaid, help here? Drop me a PM 'cos I never check back on my threads.

Sorry we confused you :(
Our data isn't prepaid but rather a month - month service, no contracts though.

In order to have Mobile data on your phone you need to have an MTN contract SIM in order to use our APN, otherwise you can look at a SIM or MiFI device from us.
Hope that clears it up a bit :)

If I force it to use edge only its stable but edge sucks.

Also I'm pretty sure its something wrong with the tower here in sedgefield.

Getting mtn to do anything is a real pain in the butt.
