I posted a page or two back about packet loss. I did some testing and it's only happening with overseas sites. For instance if I use cracked.com as the site to ping to then I get about 3% packet loss. However if I use a local site then there's no packet loss.

Interestingly enough I get very quick pings to local sites but international sites have very very high pings. In fact when I use Vodacom LTE I get pings of about 60ms to local sites and about 350ms to cracked.com. However on Afrihost (MTN) I get pings of 30ms to various local sites but about 600ms to cracked.com or similar international sites with some packet loss. The packet loss does not occur with the Vodacom LTE. Yet I have better MTN signal than Vodacom signal.

The packet loss only started recently. Maybe around end of last week. It makes images not load or forces me to reload websites.

And now I'm not getting any packet loss at all. Weird. Will keep an eye on it.

Pretty strange. With all the recent weather around the country - there could be some towers affected. That turned out to be the issue with one clients who sent through his query to the MTN coverage desk.

Might be worth logging an issue with them if this persists :(

Received my sim card ordered. LTE sim. But it doesn't have network connection? On the client zone, it shows sim card as active and there is data on it.

That's very, very strange. We'll need to check that this was correctly provisioned.

Please PM me as soon as you can so I can look into this :(

Been moving around quite a bit the past couple of years, so the mobile option just seemed easier, but yeah think I'll get myself an adsl uncapped early next year, how does Afrihost's adsl uncapped deals work, hopefully no contracts or anything?

No, it's alway month to month - all our products don't have long term contracts :)

Morning all,

Quick question regarding the Mifi devices. Are they locked to work only on the MTN network, or will I be able to sell it at some point? I'm find myself using it less and less and am considering giving it a new home. ;)

It looks like I may have to log an issue. It's up and down. The connection was so great up until a week ago but now it's a little bit annoying. How does one log a fault with Afrihost? Will check tomorrow.

I don't see a place to select that my problem is mobile data related on the Afrihost clientzone's support page.

This morning I can't even get MyBroadband's Speed Test to complete.

Now it's telling me that my cap has been reached even though I'm not even 10% in yet. Switching over to 8ta for the morning. Oh noes!

Been having similar issues, even CellC is better at the moment :-/
Pity because up till a week or so ago it was rock solid...

Maybe we are affected by the same tower? Where are you located if I may ask?

Capped with LOADS of data still available

Afriman,

Please help, my mobile data has been capped after 23% usage, bought a 250mb top up to try clear a glitch or whatever...still nothing. Saturday night with no Internet when I was just sitting down with a cold one to enjoy some fine stand up comedy!

What are my options? Please don't say wait until Monday!

Mmmm, seems to be a problem, just received the same message, only used 25% of my data. I also getting sms messages on my mobile router sim about selling more beer??

All devices sold in SA are unlocked (by law - and a bloody good law it is!)

I'm struggling to get my 3G active, it keeps re-directing me to a page saying I've used up all my ADSL data.

Just an update, Afrihost online support said there is a problem with all the mobile accounts, the packet data is not being sent as it should which is causing the "capped" error. Their technicians are working on it. In the meantime you can enjoy some dry humour in my response to the support staff ;-)

Thanks Don5.11. I hope they get it resolved soon. I actually bought some 8ta data in the meantime and it's been working really well! I'm quite surprised at how good actually.

Got to say.... love these tech supports centres attitude So easy to say all is affected. I have 3 mobile accounts and all 3 working without issues.

Seriously need to start giving them proper training.

My Afrihost account just started to terminate the connection immediately... It says (In mobile partner) that it has been terminated by the remote party, and my Mikrotik router goes from "Link established" to "Terminating - hung up" and then "Link established" etc.

Could this be related to the repairs being done?
