If you're on you're MiFI Wireless Network, you should be able to access your config settings with that URL. Drop me a PM please, that shouldn't be happening![]()
I was a bit nervous about ordering the MiFi device, as I've previously used a Vodacom dongle and had terrible connection problems when inside the house. I even bought a 3m long USB extender to get the dongle to the window in the hope of getting a better signal. Even so, it was pot luck whether I could get a decent 3G signal on Vodacom - I usually only got 2 or 3 bars and the rubbish download speeds.
I'm seriously impressed so far, as I connect with 4 green bars on the MIFI/5 blue bars on the Afrihost GUI. The 1st speed test was 70ms PING and a 13Mb/s download speed! Unfortunately I didn't grab that screenshot and when I ran the test again I ONLY got 10.7Mb/s download speed. The upload speed is over 3Mb/s, which is more than the download speed of my fixed ADSL line (2Mb/s). If the mobile connection proves to be reliable then I might do away with my fixed line ADSL.

The sad thing is my father-in-law lives next door and he just signed another 12 month mobile data bundle with Vodacom, so he couldn't move to Afrihost. He struggles to get a decent 3G signal with Vodacom and sometimes the dongle just connects via EDGE. His download speed is usually slower than 2Mb/s whenever my wife pops round to show her folks something.
Neer accessed that interface before. Upon trying to access
But I'm connected using my MiFi.
Will we be able to upgrade the Mobile Two package to Mobile Three on the third??
Yes, you will be able to upgrade to that special. Remember that Mobile Three is only available (at present) until end of November, while Mobile Two is guaranteed until end of Feb 2014. If you're really after the extra data, R19.70 per GB is a phenomenal deal![]()
Sorted with the MDMA things. Thanks.
Hi guys.
I have not gotten my hands on a modem yet so I could never Fig out if it would work with MDMA but seems its working fine, Thanks to feet.
So if you want to know how good your signal is, or see what tower your connecting to you can load this app.( Make sure your modem is connected via usb)
First download the app from http://mybroadband.co.za/vb/showthr...amp-USSD-amp-Monitors-Signal-Strength-Windows ( Thanks to gings!)
Now run down of stuff you might want to know
1.Now before you open the mdma.exe make sure you don't have other app's using the modem or you will get this error.

2.This shows how strong you signal is, the lower it is the beter signal you have. Anything under 80 dbm is good(for both 3G and EDGE)

3.This is just to show you who's Operator your using .

4.Now this shows you if your on 3G or edge ( this goes with the Signal part) If this is on EDGE it will show your EDGE in the signal bar if its on 3G it will show your 3G signal.

5.Next up is you CellID (towerID).This is a good way to check what tower gives good speeds, what tower gives crappy speed and also if you want to ask mtn where the tower is located or you have a problem with that tower just use that ID.

6.Here is the Connection Type. Mine is on 3g Preferred because I have good signal but if yours is jumping from 3G to EDGE or if it does not want to pickup 3G just select 3G only and hit apply. This will also force the modem to the 3G network ( if there is one).
Last thing guys. For thoses who does not know, when you are on 3G you will get pings around 400ms to local servers(using stuff like pingtest.net) Is not a valid way to test your ping. You see the modem needs to go over to HSDPA and the only way it will is when there is enough DATA moving. You can use speedtest.net. This will force the tower to give your modem HSDPA then you will see your pings.Tracert will also not work.
Just to show you I have done a ping test and a speed test. Also my ping test via CMD.

show me ?
I'm giving feedback to Afrihost on their mobile.
how is the signal
MTN has R99 for two gigs, so does Cell C. Yes they are contracts, but it gets less relevant when it's half the price.
Don't get me wrong though, I understand that Afrihost is trying to create a change in the mobile market, and they are going to subsidise Mobile Two and Three with Mobile One and top up.
BUT, I think the pricing @ 99 for 1GB is off. I need about 2GB for my iPad, but I'm not going to buy Mobile One plus a top up, I'm going to get Mobile three, and use the 5GB.
Instead Afrihost could charge R99 for 1GB plus 1. Then I would be subsidising Mobile Two, and Mobile Three. Plus, every other month I may even top up.
WOw thanks can we upgrade for this month would love to do thisIF so how and when will we be able to do it
Products you know well as awesome, and we've got no issues with third party products. However, just a note that we can't officially support any software or management products that we don't issue.
Disclaimer issued![]()
The only problem your stuck with 24 month contract![]()
That would be awesome. Sad thing is we won't be able to go back to 5GB. If I understand it.You should be able to upgrade during September (before the billing run) and pay the pro-rata upgrade fee.
Just remember that Mobile Three is only guaranteed as 3+7GB until end of November![]()
