Afrihost Mobile Feedback Thread

I'm also stuck with a Connection terminated message this entire morning so far and can't even connect to the network. Also caused a 2GB download to bomb out overnight just before it got completed. Checking the clientzone I see I've lost 550MB of my February cap already due to this screw up. Not to say my feelings towards Afrihost are a little frosty this morning.

Edit: Logged a support ticket though the clientzone and was resolved within 3 minutes. That is pretty impressive.

This is one of the things I really like about Telkom Mobile's night surfer data, in the event that something like this happen I don't feel annoyed about it, because essentially I regard the night surfer data as a freebie and I frequently use it to update Steam games download large program updates etc. without it impacting my general usage patterns. While I like the Afrihost network and the service, I still think this will be my last month with Afrihost and I will return to Telkom Mobile. I simply hate stuff ups that cause me to lose capped data that I have to pay for regardless.

Yes @ ld13 I activated a cancelation for one of my mobile apn plans and it was also canceled @ 10pm 2 hours early.

Still no response to a ticket logged 24hrs ago, not that it really matters much now that my Feb data has kicked in, but I do feel I've been robbed of some of my Jan data

afrihost canellation

afri/man/guy/girl or anyone I got my afrihost cancellation today.

1) so how do I get my account details deleted from your system or is that automatic?

2) can I use the huawei 5331 with a different brand sim card?

Hi All,

I'd like to get an afrihost mobile contract with the E5331 modem. have a few questions:

1) Can I cancel the contract anytime?
2) How are the speed in Cape Town? particularly southern suburbs.
3) Can I use the modem as a wifi hotspot for my iPhone?

Thanks in advance!

Yup, no contracts involved. Its month to month (however, if you take out a per month billing for the device, you'll have to pay the balance if you no longer want to pay for the data. However, there is no interest on the per month device billing, so it really doesnt change much in terms of price :P

2) How are the speed in Cape Town? particularly southern suburbs.
Depends on the area. I get around 10Mbps in my suburb.

3) Can I use the modem as a wifi hotspot for my iPhone?
Yup, for any device that supports Wifi (Up to 8 devices at a time though)

Thanks in advance!

No probs :D

I'm in struisbaai and the signal is brilliant... I'm very impressed with what we getting compared to what we paying!

been unable to access anything since last night, I get a message to top up my data as I've got nothing left but when I check in the client zone I still have about 2.4GB left, logged a ticket around lunch time but no response, just a tad frustrating

Sorry to hear that you're getting this poor experience.

Please drop me a PM if you're still having problems :(

Had to wait for January's demise... and here we are!

I am now convinced that some internal clock @ afrihost is a wee bit out. Got 2 cancellation emails just after 22:00 for 2 adsl products I killed for this experiment of mine. Just before I got the 2 emails I took this screenshot where one can see the two red dots right at the top:

After I got the cancellation emails I refreshed my control panel and I saw my 2 capped accounts were missing:

I did not have the password for the one account at hand so I refreshed the account panel itself that I kept open to see if it would still allow me to retrieve the password or re-activate the account etc etc, but I was greeted with a page like this without any of the buttons that would allow me access to the needed info:

It would not allow me to do anything with my account anymore. Luckily I had the password at hand for the other capped account and I managed to connect to this account without a problem. I downloaded a 200mb odd file to make sure I do not cap the account and then at about 23:00 I decided to disconnect and reconnect the account to test if the radius server would still allow me access. It would not:

Accounts are seemingly canceled too early imo. I should have access to my account that I paid for till 23:59:59 on the last day of the month. I suspect that the same is happening to the mobile products, but this would be a test for another day.

We generally started running cancellation scripts an hour or two before to ensure that the process runs smoothly so that has always been the case :)

Finally, got my connection working. It's a pity the coverage map is worthless. Showed I'm in a 3G signal area. but only getting edge :(

Edge might just be the stronger signal, but there could be better 3G service if you set the device to 3G only.

Connection breaks are part of how mobile works. Although the connection is instantaneous, it's something to do with how mobile coverage works. The science of it all is a little beyond me though. But generally you should have the experience of continuous connectivity.

still had no response to my ticket, not that it really matters as everything came right when we kicked onto Feb's data on Saturday

Hey there

We need to retain information for a period of time for audit purposes. So we will hide cancelled products from ClientZone, but your profile remains valid indefinitely (even if there are no active products) so that you can always check your history.

Any valid SIM will work on our devices, as per ICASA rules

when did you guys decide to launch in Pasadena?
Saw the most recent Big Bang Theory and with the frantic trying to click into a system at the start of the show there is no way the guys were wanting comicon tickets. Only the launch of Afrihost mobile could do that as it did here

Btw you guys using the 1991 Monza for delivery?
