Hey Guys

I know we're still having issues with people be redirected to the Capped page.

IF this happens please PM me and CC AfriGuy so one of us can get you connected. Otherwise you can also call our support team who can usually resolve the query quite quickly :(

Hey guys :)

I see I also have a few PM's that are pending some later last night, I'll run through them ASAP.

I havent used my AH mobile for some time now, I tried to log into wow just to check my auctions but the lag was so bad I decided to give it up as a bad job... Why would I get latency of 2400ms+ on a full 3G signal? I understand that mobile is not the best option for online gaming but this is just silly.

Sorry to hear you aren't seeing the best latency :(
It could be an area related issue, heavy traffic or even a hardware related issue. Have you tried moving the device around?

There is definitely no shaping. Strange that you'd get that, but maybe latency is higher than usual. We'd need to look into that to check.

Afriman, there must be some sort of shaping going on - getting 6mb speeds but can't even stream 144p. I'm the only person using this device, and there are no other applications using the connection.

Take a look at this example I recorded just now:

Very strange :(
The latency is a little high, but nothing that should be causing the buffering like you're seeing here.

Are you using our DNS servers?

That's pretty odd - that video should usually stream pretty easily. It's working pretty decently on DSL for me.

We don't add any intention shaping to Mobile Data ever - so it may be a latency issue. If it's working on DSL I'm guessing there are no routing or CDN problems with accessing YouTube on the MTN backbone :(

LOL at the euphemism...

Ive moved my device around and even tried to put it on the windowsill, My speedtest was ok. I would rerun it and post the results but I cannot do anything at the moment, I am connected but no throughput.

Seems like MTN is just not happy in Bryanston.

I was wondering, does the capped message problem only happen to certain people or is it your entire mobile user base? I see the problem is set to low impact on your site.

I'm thinking it may be happening to more people than you know. For instance I never reported it even though it has been happening since the weekend. I thought it would be fixed without me having to contact anyone. I'm sure lots of people thought the same as me. Should we all contact Afrihost so that they can view it as a higher priority and maybe get more people or senior technicians on the job?

Looking at using AH Mobile as my primary internet solution, as such have been testing the crap out of it. I've also noticed that there are intermittent, but frequently re-occuring, issues with youtube. One day I can stream in 1080p without an issue, and the next day its completely borked!

I'm not savvy enough to know what I am see'ing, but I've noticed something when the issue starts happening: I can download a flat file at 11mbps, but it takes time to initialise - once downloading it FLIES! Youtube seems to be doing the same thing - Video buffers like 15sec > hangs (initialising next packet of data?) wait wait wait > buffering flies to another 15sec > hangs again > repeat. When I do a trace to youtube, the second hop times out, and I typically see bad results (700ms+) elsewhere.

If I test on a fixed line at the same time, there are no issues at all.

Not sure if that helps?

We're working through a few options on our end to rectify this :)
It's quite a complex issue from what we can see and a bit hard to spot - our top guys are on it though.

It could be that the area is experiencing some issues or is quite busy. Remember streaming needs quite stable latency, so it may spike up in the beginning and then buffer a bit better after the initial requests.

Thanks I'm back to normal again...no more OOB messages :).
